559698 2007-06-16 02:20:00 Hey all,

So I saw that Safari 3 Beta is available now for Windows. Figured Id download it and give it a whirl.

Straight off the bat, loaded the apple start page:
www.apple.com
Took 11 seconds for Safari to load it?
Took 5 seconds for Firefox to load it!
Took 13 seconds for IE to load it before IE stopped with errors on the page :P It didnt display the four black squares up the top of the site :D

Anyways, in case anybody else wants to give it a whirl, free download here:
www.apple.com/safari/download/

Love to hear the thoughts of some other doze users? Constructive thoughts, not flaming thou ;)

Cheers

559700 2007-06-16 02:40:00 There have been a couple of threads on the other forum about experiences with it.

No idea where the apple speed claims came from - I found it very slow, and with no compelling point of improvement to switch from Opera & FF.

559701 2007-06-16 03:04:00 Isn't it funny that whenever there's a direct comparison between Windows and Apple products, Apple starts to look like a pear! :D Greg (193)
559702 2007-06-16 03:25:00 The speeds seem fairly similar once it is going
on first boot up it does seem to take a while to load the apple page, but from there on in, it seems pretty similar to firefox and opera

Don't worry Chill, there are plenty of Mac users venting their comments about it. I actually posted the link to it the night before last when it first became available.

Only when Apple's software is set up to run on Windows - it works fine on a Mac. Still it is going to be an interesting development process to follow. I have read that there are a lot of 3rd party app developers hanging out to develop stuff for the iPhone which is the main reason for releasing Safari for Windows.

559705 2007-06-16 05:17:00 Safari on Windows actually works very well.
No problems with bad fonts as reported by some.
Would not go as far as to say it is faster than FF but it is not any slower.
Running it on Vista download times are almost identical, that is with clearing the cache on both browsers before each test.

For those that like to have a selection of browsers installed Safari is a useful option.

559706 2007-06-16 06:00:00 I will download and install it when it comes out of beta (got burned baaad with IE7 beta2!). But I am suspicious of the speed claims it makes - not especially about Safari, but my mileage differs to their claims when comparing IE7, Firefox and Opera. Which makes me suspicious that the Safari speed claims are just hype to try to gain market share/publicity. Call me a cynic... johcar (6283)

A bit of both and a crafty move to get developers onto Safari for iPhone apps (not that they need encouraging)
