| 559550 | 2007-06-15 07:53:00 | I recently got in a stupid online argument with someone on a message board, who proceeded to threaten to track my IP if I didn't leave the board in 10 minutes. I downloaded HideIP as quick as I could, installed it and told him to go ahead and do it. He did so and while I thought he had tracked the IP that HideIP gave me, I think HideIP doesn't work with Vista or something, considering my IP is the exact same with it on and off, so I think he got my real IP. He threatened to contact my ISP, which I don't know what that is, and figure out my phone number as well... I'm just wondering if my IP in his posession is of any real threat to me, and if he can do the things he has threatened. Thanks for any replies. Oh and I also wanted to ask if anyone knew what the problem was with HideIP on Vista, or if anyone could tell me of a program that works with Vista to hide my IP, thanks again! |

| 559551 | 2007-06-15 08:05:00 | Welcome to PressF1. It's a good idea to not get into "stupid online arguments". ;) Just walk away. :cool: I don't think you have anything to fear. Your ISP is your Internet Service Provider. That's the company you pay each month to supply your connection. |

| 559554 | 2007-06-15 08:29:00 | Reboot the modem and your IP address will change assuming you have a Dynamic IP address (changes often) and not a Static IP address (never changes) But unless he has information like you sending email spam, child porn and all of the nets other real bad things the ISP will not give out that sort of information and I would think the police will be invloved including a warrany for the account details that was using the IP address at the time (yours) |

Assuming hes just a script kiddie he will probably run a whois on your ip, which will normally just return your ip, the address of your ISP etc. Nothing about you personally | Myth (110) | ||
