2007-06-17 13:13:00 | Not a clue how it worked, but I tried it multiple times at multiple locations, even proxy'ing myself through a friends VPS in the states that I knew the physical location of... Cant remember the name of the site, I'll see if I can dig up any details of it

2007-06-17 19:40:00 | Its possible. I now know exactly where slingshot keeps its servers :p However I have yet to find an online tool or app that will trace right back. Shouldn't take too long

2007-06-18 05:53:00 | That location will work by looking up the registered owner of an IP address, and getting their physical address. Individuals with dynamic IP addresses allocated by ISPs aren't registered. IP addresses are just numbers, and don't have physical addresses. The registered owners of IP addresses (or ranges of IP addresses) do have physical addresses.

2007-06-18 11:18:00 | Oh for crying out loud. I've yet to see proof of how this could work at all. It seems entirely impossible. Have you got proof winmacguy? | roddy_boy (4115) | |
2007-06-18 11:23:00 | I think I explained it earlier in a separate post. Maybe I have been watching to much of the British program Spooks but to summarize; Telecom has your physical address/location of your landline as well as your phone number. You log in to your ISP from your home via your phone line. Sound feasible...? Ok That might be a bit over simplified, but that is the theory of it. Obviously that information remains confidential and private with the ISP.

2007-06-18 11:29:00 | Yes you did explain it. How the hell is the average Joe Bloggs going to get your location from your IP though? Answer: he's not. Stop over-dramatising things.

2007-06-18 11:35:00 | They don't need to get your physical address, they just need to hack into your PC and leave a trojan behind to get your personal details which is not that hard, then it is just a matter of cleaning out your bank account or stealing your identity which is not unheard of. Not everybody has a firewall on their PC. | winmacguy (3367) | |
2007-06-18 12:14:00 | Haha, oh wow. Complete change of tune. | roddy_boy (4115) | |
2007-06-18 14:11:00 | There was this site that I used to go to. It was for this Proxy software.. I never bought it, but I used it before I knew of whatismyip.com to get my IP. It also showed your geographical location, but I cant remember for the life of me the name of the software :( | Chilling_Silence (9) | |
