Amazon's EC2 "Elastic Compute Cloud". It seems like quite a good idea, and I'd be interested to talk to someone who has had some experience with it. I have an upcoming development project which I am considering using it for.

Same with this: http://rightscale.com/ (essentially a nice web-frontend to EC2).

559739 2007-06-16 06:59:00 sounds like a different form of grid computing. Very interesting. winmacguy (3367)

The grid form of computing I am familiar with is based on Mac Xserves linked together such as the ones used at Virginia Tech on their Terascale computing facility.

559742 2007-06-19 12:11:00 I have an EC2 account. I haven't used it much but it works extremely well. It takes ages to get to the front of the queue but it's nice knowing that if I ever need a temporary server, processing cluster or just a smart storage system it's available within minutes.
