2007-06-20 18:37:00 | My partner using XP got a trojan which infected one of her games (Big Fish Game) and Avast moved the whole game to the virus chest. Can she use System restore to go back to before the infection and have the game back.If so what are the "steps" to get system restore to a previous date.?

2007-06-20 19:06:00 | Much better to reload the game | Tony.br (4018) | |
2007-06-20 21:41:00 | Start button - Programs/Accessories/System Tools/ System Restore and from there select the date. As previously advised, better to reload. Have you done a complete scan to clear any other Trojans and viruses?

2007-06-20 21:52:00 | We did a complete scan with Avast, adaware, and spybot, emptied the avast chest deleted the game useing add-remove etc in control panel then downloaded the game again but when it was installing it came up again. Can it be coming from an outside source or can it only be coming from the game provider ? It is a very nasty W32 inject trojan. | kjaada (253) | |

2007-06-21 00:39:00 | We did a scan with Avast and it found 10 instances of -inject most of them in restore. I then ran Speedys Trojan remover app and all was clear. then reinstalled the game and once again infected. With regard to this so far:I transfered the infection to the virus chest but when we completed the game install the game did not come up when activated. Have now gone thru the Avast thing (found 1)transfered to chest. Deleted from chest>Ran trojan remover and now going to download the game again and install later. Will come back if still no go. I should add here my partner does not like me going near her puter in case I "infect it" with something Linux.

2007-06-21 01:50:00 | Wish I had have known that before.See my post above:10 instances and most in system restore. The first thing I do in these situations, assuming the PC is running in a stable manner is to disable system restore, then reboot. that clears out the sysres cache. then fix the problem, do ANOTHER scan after it's all fixed and scanned to make doubley sure nothing is lying around, then re-enable system restore.

Whatever you do . . . run Belarc Adviser and print out a full copy of it . . . keep this secure . . . as secure as a wedding license, divorce decree or your parentage certificates . Do this before you have any problems . . . like yesterday!!!! DO NOT LOSE THE PRINT OUT . . in other words!!! With it and an 'ANY COPY" of XP, you can make a full install . . . BUT YOU GOTTA HAVE THE KEY NUMBERS TO DO IT!!! Then . . . and only then, laugh at System Restore and go compute something to your heart's delight . . . you are fireproof!!! |
