560772 2007-06-20 02:09:00 Anyone seen this and know of a remedy? The site has several wireless connected PCs working to a Linksys WAG54GP2 and one ethernet cable connected one . This latter has been no problem for about a year but suddenly last Thurs developed a problem whereby every few seconds it seems to drop the cable connection then reconnects . These reconnects show in the system log as info 4201 (connection found and re-connected) .

This machine works perfectly on my network into my switch . Subbing the enet cable doesn't help . NIC card Media type experimenting didn't help . Static addresses, no change . I have run a winsock fix prog and reset IP with netsh .

googling shows others have had similar problems but I can see no solution that works here .

TIA .

560773 2007-06-20 02:33:00 Hi, the wired pc is dropping connection?, wow, usually its the wireless ones....is there only 1 port for the RJ45 cable?, have you tried Linksys support?, sometimes they will give you web address to firmware upgrades NOT on the web site.

If that doesnt help, I would say either the PC NIC, the ethernet lead or the router port is faulty.

560774 2007-06-20 05:29:00 Thanks for reply . Yes, I know, it is usually the wireless! The NIC is fine on my network, I have subbed the cable and tried different ports on the router to no effect . It's just so frustrating that it just started last Thursday out of the blue . Guess SOMETHING has changed but I'm darned if I can think what .

I'll add in a PCI NIC and try that . I'll try Linksys support, too .

560775 2007-06-20 05:56:00 Had the same problem with that router over a period of a month. Ended up with no wired connection and sent it back under warranty and got it replaced. berryb (99)

What? I've called the Linksys support like about 5 or 6 times and they have been nothing but absolutely great. Far better than most NZ companies I've dealt with.

I agree. No problems whenever I've contacted them. Answer time is normally within 5 minutes and I have always got a good service. NZ companies could learn something from them in my experience.

560779 2007-06-20 23:55:00 Thanks, guys . Interesting that this problem has been seen before, berryb .

I did ring Linksys . Can't really complain about the service . Fairly long-winded and her American accent had me a couple of times but they were trying .

I'm going to put another machine on the cable tomorrow and see if the problem still exists . This way we exclude all computer hardware and setup from the equation . If it still fails, we have to conclude that the router switch is faulty . And hope that the router is still within warranty!

560780 2007-06-25 01:34:00 Just to complete this thread. I have just put a new device in and the problem has gone. So, another WAG54 ethernet port failure. linw (53)
