560370 2007-06-18 05:52:00 I tried to burn some mp3 format music to a CD-RW and the error messgae came up with can only fit 18 tracks on CD. I wondered wether this was due to the hours 2:20 mins and 300MB. The CD is 700MB / 80min / 4-10.
I thought a CD could take many MP3 format tracks compared with WMP.
Any answeres for me?

560371 2007-06-18 06:12:00 what bitrate did you rip your songs at? winmacguy (3367)
560372 2007-06-18 06:28:00 Thats depends if u converted the MP3's to audio cd format or burnt them as is (As MP3's).

You'll get a lot more on a cd in MP3 format, and you'll be able to play it as long as the CD player supports MP3 CD's.

560373 2007-06-19 05:34:00 I dont know what bitrate it was. Where would I find the Bit rate?

I burnt them as MP3s. i did this on the Windows media player. As I had the song in my library as WMA files.

tHE SONG ON YOUR DRIVE MAY HAVE BEEN MP3, BUT WHEN YOU CUT THEM THEY WERE CONVERTED BACK THE WAV...
Opps, sorry about the CAPS...Thats the way Windows Media Player works, so you need to use something better like Nero!

It should be under importing options.

560376 2007-06-19 06:25:00 Don't worry about NERO..WMP can convert both ways and it's very easy.

You have choices to burn as a cd or MP3...it's in the selections when you collect the songs you want to burn. WMP will convert both ways..from MP3 to CD and CD to MP3.

!st, CD files are pretty large...like .wav files and take a lot of room...that's why there's usually only 12 or so cuts on a cd.

2nd, MP3s have a lot of compression and a disc can usually have many more cuts on them if you don't mind losing cuing and album art and titles and such.

I find that I store a lot of music as MP3s in about 1000Kbps or so. It's in the settings for ripping.

WMV saves in MP3 format and the art work and thumbnails etc are stored with them, so you will not have lost them..they just won't burn data to an MP3 disc.

Most times if you get your music from streams, they arrive in 128Kbps, so there's not too much you can do about it there.

You can see the bitrate if you open the LIBRARY list, and open any artist name and make sure you have an album open to where you can see the individual songs.

There are columns that will usually have titles like: Title | Artist | Album | etc...

THE COLUMNS WILL NOT WRAP TO THE WINDOW..THEY MIGHT BE OFF THE EDGE, SO LOOK FOR THE LEFT-RIGHT PULL BAR ON THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST!

If you don't see the bitrate there, just go up to any of the headers on those columns and right click to open a command box that allows you to tick or untick any of the info columns you want or want to remove. After you tick one on or off, the whole command box will disappear, so go back and add or subtract any more that you want to,

If you like, navigate to the bottom of that command box that your right click brought out, and when at the bottom click on More.....that's the way to see all the choices at once.

People tell me that any bitrate over 128 is kinda hard to hear as better... quality-wise anyway...but I save all the really hard to get stuff in the highest rate I can save them in..as I have 8 500gig harddrives anyway. (PS: I am running a server)

Depends what codec you used to rip the song. MP3 is getting pretty outdated, wma is pretty average bit not as generic as MP3. Some of the open source codecs are supposed to be very high quality but not well known like ogg vorbis. aac is a very high quality open standards codec which is also used by Apple. The latest form of MP3 is MP4 or m4a I think with the best video codec being h.264 which is part of MP4.
Generally you should try and rip your tracks in the best codec you can get at the highest bitrate that you have room for, so around 192 kbps or better. The bitrates go up to 320kbps. Apple's new DRM free songs are encoded at 256kbps aac.
