| 560428 | 2007-06-18 21:36:00 | Just curious.. but how high do the vista performance ratings go? I have a base score of 5.2, and the highest is 5.9. Anybody know? cheers.:cool: | wratterus (105) | ||

| 560430 | 2007-06-18 21:43:00 | ah ha. just managed to find what i was looking for.. The highest is 5.9 it would seem. :thumbs: | wratterus (105) | ||
| 560431 | 2007-06-19 01:40:00 | 5.9 is the highest for now. From the Windows help file - "The base scores currently range from 1 to 5.9. The Windows Experience Index is designed to accommodate advances in computer technology. As hardware speed and performance improves, higher base scores will be introduced." so I guess there may not be an upper limit at all in theory. Mind you with my pitiful base score of 3.3 I've got a few upgrades to do to get anywhere near a 5.9!! |

| 560433 | 2007-06-19 01:47:00 | Haha. all PORN. :horrified :horrified nooooo way. probably 300gig of pics, music and movies (i keep them backed up, not pirated):rolleyes: , i have done a lot of video editing and stuff, one 500 gig drive is set aside for that, and the related clips. Got xp and vista dual booting on a 200gb drive, i like a bit of spare space for my OSs, so that leaves me with about 200 gig free, which ill fill up over the next wee while. Satisfied? :lol: | wratterus (105) | ||
| 560434 | 2007-06-19 05:14:00 | lol, i have 1.2 tb... mostly not used yet lol but has and will have more movies, music, tv, porn (as a statement of geekdom not for watching lol), pictures, games etc. Hard drive space is wonderful! Thats all I can say... Oh yeah, and that I have now used vista and cannot see what all the fuss is about. Its like XP with little frilly bits... not impressed at all. Not anywhere near as pretty as my beryl system :) |

When ripped from DVD the average movie takes up a minimum of 750 MB of diskspace. If you rip your whole library of DVDs onto your HD for your media centre you could easily be up to 30 or 40 GB of space. My 3000 song collection is just shy of 17GB. Just like a big monitor you can never have too much HD space. Don't forget that legal purchasable movies online is still to become a reality in this country and each one of them will be 750MB. Stored TV or video takes up a fair amount of space. The only catch with having lots of big files on your HD is being able to access and find them which is where a good indexing system or search system comes into play. XP was crap for that sort of thing, apparently Vista is pretty good. Apple is very good and about to get a whole lot better. |

I've survive quite happily with 2 120gb drives for all my media, I just back it up to DVD's once ive watched it. A mate of mine has over a terabyte of storage and all he's got stored is crap he never uses, purely e-penis. |
