562571 2007-06-25 03:29:00 Hi guys,

This is the error message I am getting on my P4 2 . 8Ghz 1MB RAM PC .

Here's the background . . . the 160GB HDD in this PC died, and as a result, I lost a fair bit of backed up and not backed up data . . .

Anyway, today i chucked an old Seagate Barracuda 40GB IDE HDD into the above PC and tried to boot Windows 2000 on it . . . . and I get the above BSOD Inaccessible Boot Disk . . . .

Hmm, so I swapped the drive out and chucked it into an ANCIENT P3 800Mhz machine that I have'nt used for years . . . . it boots W2K without a problem . . .

So back to the P4, I swapped the IDE cables - all OK, checked the HDD jumpers (set to Cable select), checked the PSU - all OK . . . . :badpc:

So I am stumped, why do I get the above BSOD on my so called "good" PC, but the same drive will boot without a problem on the older P3?

Is it possible that my P4 MOBO has developed a fault? (I am really hoping thats not the case!)

Appreciate any words of wisdom here guys! :)

562572 2007-06-25 03:41:00 Most likely Windows 2000 doesn't have the correct IDE drivers installed for the P4 mainboard but does for the older board.

You will have to do a Repair install to get it running on the P4 board.

562573 2007-06-25 03:46:00 Hi Cyabro,

Thanks for the reply . . . by "repair install" do you mean booting from the W2K CD and then repairing the install on the old drive?

Fingers crossed this is what you mean . . .

The issue I face is that I lost my OS when the original HDD failed, and the P4 does'nt come with a copy of XP, (it just has a licence number on the side and a recovery CD) so my only "real" OS I have is W2K Pro .

Appreciate your advice . . . and hopfully what I have said above is what you meant! :)

562575 2007-06-26 00:46:00 Hmmm bad news Cyabro...the PC will boot from the CDROM, but it won't get past the "Setup is inspecting your hardware configuration" screen....

Any ideas? I reckon the HDD failure may have taken out something on the MOBO as well....

Gutted!

562576 2007-06-26 01:04:00 Set the mobo to default settings, then 1st boot cd-rom and try that! SolMiester (139)
