| 562324 | 2007-06-24 04:03:00 | My dvd drive has disappeared. It is not showing in MY computer. The tray opens and shuts but nothing is read. After rebooting I get a message saying it needs JMicronJMB 36X controller. I found jmicron and downloaded it, but it appears to be a Raid file. I am not useing raid. And what am I supposed to do with it anyway. Clicking on the download produces a folder called Raid. Of course I can not even re-install windows without the drive. What do I do now? I have checked the dvd drive and it appears to be still plugged in. |

| 562327 | 2007-06-24 06:05:00 | I've heard about CD/DVD drives vanishing from "My Computer" after Windows updates. You can find a registry tweake that may help if that is the reason here (www.theeldergeek.com). Be careful in the registry with what you are deleting. It would pay to back it up first. | Jen (38) | ||
| 562328 | 2007-06-24 09:00:00 | Had the same thing a couple of months ago, tried all the registry tweaks I could find on google etc & nothing worked. I swapped to another drive & operating system, everything was normal, all optical & flash drives worked. Swapped back, backed up all the files I wanted via network, wiped the drive & did a clean install of XP, fully updated & all is well. I don't remember what caused the problem, all I know is the drive wasn't there when I needed it. Check your bios before doing anything drastic to make sure the system can see if it's there, it may be a dead drive | Phil B (648) | ||
