| 562287 | 2007-06-24 03:22:00 | Hi all, i have a spare pc i use for backup, yesterday i wiped the drive clean and loaded Win 2000, using that nlite program[ old pc very low memory ] I had a bit of trouble at the start but after a while it loaded and all was well, i used it last night for a few hours and no probs, then this morning i went to start it up again and i get the blue screen, i can't read what it says because its to quick to restart. Whilst watching it boot i noticed that it was not finding the hardrive, i had it set to auto so i changed it to" user " it did find it ok but the blue screen still comes up. Upon starting i only get the one beep & i have tried to boot the OS again but it doesn't boot at all, using floppies or a cd. Any thoughts please, thanks Rony |

| 562288 | 2007-06-24 03:56:00 | as soon as you powerup the pc tap f8 repeatedly then at the menu choose 'disable automatic restart on error' ......that'll stop the pc at the blue screen so you can read it | drcspy (146) | ||
| 562289 | 2007-06-24 07:28:00 | Thanks for the reply mate, but i tried that and it doesn't give me that option, looked through the BIOS setup for any setting the same but nothing. I tried another hardrive and blue screen again, this time some how it let me read the writing, went something like INACCESSABLE BOOT, if this new hardware remove and check connections, check for viruses. When i reboot sometimes it finds the hardrive and others it doesn't, checked all connection, everything was right, i even through another electrical box in but same deal, and changed the memory sticks still no good. :badpc: buggered if i know |

| 562291 | 2007-06-24 08:10:00 | Try another IDE cable and make sure the hdd is the main bootdisk, in the BIOS. Take any floppies out, if u have a disk drive. F8 isnt in the BIOS. You hold F8 down after u turn it on. Then select what Drcspy said. Also make sure the BIOS is picking up / detecting the hdd, then save the BIOS settings. Then see if the hdd boots (thats if its got something on it of course). |

Ok, thanks mate, i will try another cable, i know F8 is a key but no options for " disabling restart " or anything else that meant the same, its an very old mobo. i meant i was looking for a setting that stopped it restarting in BIOS, so i could read the writting, weird though mate, when i put the other hardive in it stopped on blue and i could read what it said. Just one question please, do i set it to auto in BIOS, or user ? thanks for the help i am stuffed with this. |

| 562293 | 2007-06-24 08:42:00 | Usually u put it on Auto. Thats if u know, the hdd works. Or if the hdd does work, (since the mobo is old), and the BIOS doesnt detect it, u can put it on User. But you need to type the Cylinders/tracks etc that are on the top of the hard drive. Under user in the BIOS. Press ESC in the BIOS (after you've typed in the Cylinders etc). Then see if the BIOS detects the hdd. If it does, save the settings in the BIOS. Another thing u can do since the mobo is old, find out what the model/brand is, and see if there's a BIOS update for it (later than whats on it now). |

Tried another 2 grey cables, still nothing, there are in the right way too, took that hardrive out fitted to my newer pc as a prim/ slave, showed up no problems and used checkdisk & defrag on it. Stuck it back in and the BIOS doesn't see it, on ide 1 or ide 2, will try typing it in now, this is new stuff for me so looking on top of the drive, i have got; Drive parameters; LBA 156301488 80.0 GB the rest is serials numbers, model numbers, shall give it a try and check for a newer bios update. thanks a lot mate. |

| 562296 | 2007-06-24 21:42:00 | Was there anything on the hdd's?? It doesnt sound like it. You HAVE to install somethng (like XP) on it before it'll boot. If its empty / blank, then nothing will happen / boot. Thats why it worked when u changed it to cd in the BIOS then installed XP (off the CD, if this is what u did). If there's something on the hdd now, change it back to C as the main bootdisk. |
