561938 2007-06-23 06:41:00 Over the last 6 months or so I have noticed that there are quite lengthy delays between when I select a new web page and when it appears. During the delays the "ZoneAlarm" icon pops up in the system tray. Is this NORMAL
for web browsing these days ?. I am running XP Sp2 on dialup ( Clearnet ).
Another computer using the same land line but running Win 98 Se has the same problem. Does anyone have any REASONABLE ideas how I can fix this problem ? Many thanks.
Lin Scott.

561939 2007-06-23 06:43:00 It might be that your on dial up. What browser are you using? winmacguy (3367)
561940 2007-06-23 06:54:00 And what version of Zonealarm?? johcar (6283)
561941 2007-06-23 07:15:00 Maybe run HJT and let Speedy see if there is something on both computers that could make ZA do that. beeswax34 (63)
561942 2007-06-23 07:58:00 And what speed are u connecting at??

I know on Ihug sometimes its slow as.. Especially when I'm on this forum.

But its been pretty fast (in the last few days), since Ihug fixed their email prob. (and other probs).

When ZA pops up, whats it saying??

Has someone defragged both of these PC's recently?

Are both slow, when u boot both up as well??

561943 2007-06-24 00:34:00 Thanks for the replies.
WINMACGUY....The browser that I am using on both computers is Outlook Express Version 6

JOHCAR......Zone Alarm version 6.2.0.236

BEESWAX34....Sorry but I don't know what HJT means.

SPEEDY GONZALES.....Usually my connection speed is about 49.2 Kb/s.
When Zone Alarm pops up it's icon appears in the system tray for the duration of the delay, not there when traffic is flowing.
Both computers have been defragmented lately, usually once a month.
Both computers are slow. I never have them on at the same time.

I think winmacguy was after the application that you use to browse the internet: Internet Explorer 6, Internet Explorer 7, Firefox, Opera, Netscape etc...

I assume you're using the free version of Zonealarm - 6.2 looks a tad old, isn't there a version 7 for the free version now?? You will have to 'Allow" Zonealarm to access the page, otherwise you will be prompted every time you try the same action. Read what Zonealarm is saying in the pop-up - it may be appropriate for ZA to 'remember' the action too...

There's nothing wrong with the older versions of Zonealarm so there is no need to upgrade. In fact I wouldn't recommend it purely for the reason that the latest version now includes Zone Alarm Security Suite which is not free but it is optional whether it is installed or not. No option to avoid the massive download, however. :(

561946 2007-06-24 23:55:00 Looks like I will have to call in the expensive "Expert". Thanks to all who made suggestions.

561947 2007-06-25 00:26:00 If your not already using it I was going to suggest using Firefox or Opera since IE is generally regarded as an insecure pile of crap and IE 7 tends to come with its own set of issues. winmacguy (3367)
