561613 2007-06-22 02:16:00 I have the opportunity to acquire a second hand Canoscan FS2710 for scanning photographic slides. It is suitable for Win 98 (I have a PC with Win 98) but requires a SCSI card (don't have one on board).
I also have a PC with Win XP. Am looking for advice as how best to install and use this software on either PC.
All help much appreciated. KB.

561614 2007-06-22 04:20:00 You should be able to pick up a cheap SCSI card off Trademe, or a new one cheap enough from likes of Dick Smith.
The SCSI card may need drivers or XP might have them depending on brand/model but most can be got off the net.

Check the net you can probably get XP canon scanner updates for it.

If your scanning slides you might want some serious HDD space, you scan slides at very high resolution, maybe add another one of those as well.

561615 2007-06-22 04:26:00 You need to scan the slides in at no less than 400dpi or preferably much higher. The higher the dpi the higher the quality of the scan. The only other thing you might want to consider is a bit of colour correction in photoshop for the final files.
The other option would be to get them drum scanned for the best quality although that could cost a lot.

561616 2007-06-22 04:31:00 The DSE scsi card is a distant memory. The Canoscan originally came with an Adaptec card, has that gone missing? Not all cards are the same when it comes to getting scanners working, you may have some fun. PaulD (232)
561617 2007-06-23 01:49:00 For PaulD - it appears the adaptec card went with the old PC when it was disposed of. KB. kbcad (1025)
561618 2007-06-23 05:55:00 kbcad, I have and use an FS2710 here on XP, if I can be of any help. Sorry, no spare SCSI card though, other than an old ISA one. rumpty (2863)
561619 2007-06-23 22:18:00 Rumpty - would be pleased if you can tell me how to set it up on XP. Have been told drivers weren't available. KB. kbcad (1025)
561620 2007-06-23 22:37:00 Did u try the 2k drivers (www.usa.canon.com) ? Speedy Gonzales (78)
561621 2007-06-24 01:49:00 Speedy - no haven't tried any drivers yet, as I don't yet have a SCSI card. But will Win 2000 drivers be OK for Win XP? KB. kbcad (1025)

Most are and most should work with XP.
