If its coming from the hard drive its a sign of its coming death.

I wonder if this is just a dead or dying battery on the motherboard and the BIOS not holding settings?

First thing I would have tried.

562300 2007-06-25 02:03:00 If I had a puter which was "old" and had limited resources I would use it to try a Linux distro. kjaada (253)
562301 2007-06-25 07:40:00 This a weird one ok, it loaded up the XP fine, put in all drivers still went well, been using it for a few hours then guess what, the p...k of a thing wouldn't boot [blue screen] STOP FATAL ERROR, THE WINDOWS LOGON PROCESS SYSTEM PROCESS terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0X00000004
Its now finding the drive every time i reboot, the BIOS time isn't resetting back or anything, its holding good time.
I put the XP cd in and used repair, its working now, i am using it now, but during the repairing process it stopped a few times saying it couldn't copy a few files, so i just keep pushing enter for it to keep going.
any of this sound like something you have come across ? the hard drive or whatever it was clicking is not clicking today, just to make it more confusing
thanks guys

Does that mean that it was losing the boot drive and the time before?, this would definitely indicate a flat or nearly dead cmos (bios) battery (they usually only last 3 or 4 years), which may have charged-up a little, it will die again, you should replace it (is about $6 from DSE). Sweep said the same thing earlier :p
You may have other probs tho, that 'couldnt copy files', while repairing installation doesnt sound good (iffy os cd?).

Thanks, i will put another battery in, i finished up checking in device manager and seen a yellow exclamation mark at the VIA CPU to AGP controller, so i uninstalled it rebooted and windows must have installed it, this time anyway, everything in "device manager" looks ok, but when i go to "display" properties in
" Control panel " i have no setup for changing or setting anything that is suppose to be there, there is only "theme properties " to use, nothing else shows up, at all.
I am thinking its the mobo itself, its been around long enough, the XP cd is ok, never had any problems loading up my good pc , only this one.
So far its use able, but for how long ?? luckily its only my spare.
anyway thanks very much everyone,
Ron

562306 2007-06-26 11:32:00 The drives on its way out.

The hard drive may be nearly dead as you say.

The CMOS battery may be dead.

As I am not where the poster lives I am not in a position to diagnose the problem.
