562348 2007-06-24 08:20:00 is it a SATA HDD drive, and you forgot to load the drivers at the start of the process when asked? godfather (25)

No. It is not a SATA HDD.

562350 2007-06-24 08:38:00 Installing over top of a damaged install?

There is no garentee that will work, may need a format and install.

If it were me Id drop in a different HD and see if you can install to it, and if so I would slave the suspect drive and run the XP check disc...

It's a cleaned install. Deleted and reformatted the C: even put in a known-to-be good HDD but still stuck at the same loading Windows screen.

Tried to put in a new PSU but the 20-pin and the 4-pin socket is so close together that the new PSU can't plug in (the latch is obstructing). I don't want to modify the latch for this task before confirming the PSU is faulty.

Have tested the RAM with Memtest and also put in a new stick of RAM.

562352 2007-06-24 11:41:00 Any suggestions to solve this problem? This computer belongs to an old neighbour of mine and he is not in the position to get a new one, financially.

I'm running out of ideas other than waiting for the hard rubbish collection.

562353 2007-06-24 11:52:00 If I were to clutch at straws, I would suggest trying another XP install CD.

Though its most probally a faulty item of hardware that is causing teh boot sequence to jam as XP assigns it a driver, If you have removed all teh PCI cards then its most likely a component on the motherboard.

See where Im going with this?

562354 2007-06-24 19:35:00 I'm only guessing here but from when I first saw this thread I thought it may be the graphics (onboard?). Have you tried swapping between onboard and a card? Myth (110)
562355 2007-06-24 21:19:00 I would definitley recommend a HDD test.:o wratterus (105)

It's an AGP card, not on-board. Have got one to swap. :(
