562640 2007-06-25 07:43:00 Hi all

As above I put a favicon up for a friends site but it doesn't show in IE, it works fine in Opera and safari as well as firefox, but in IE there is nary a trace of it

It's not a big issue it's just that the friend only uses IE (don't even go there), and I am going to look a bit silly if i tell them i have added something they can't see

edit---------------

IE doesn't seem to want to show any favicons even in the bookmarks section, apart from the google favicon

562641 2007-06-25 07:56:00 This has been discussed here before if you want to do a search but basically Internet Explorer 6 and below do not support Favicons. Not sure if my memory serves me correctly or not but I think someone mentioned that IE7 does, however.

Do that search...

ummmm I have to correct you there FoxyMX (Sorry :o ), if you bookmark a site in IE 6, the Favicon will/should show up in your bookmarks .

Have you tried clearing out the Temporary Internet Files? (if that does not help PM me the URL of the site in question & I will try & bookmark it with IE 6.0

562645 2007-06-25 09:59:00 Try using the suggestions above in conjunction with AM-Deadlink.... johcar (6283)
562646 2007-06-25 10:39:00 Yup, I can't get favicons in IE6 either. What is AM-Deadlink johcar? beeswax34 (63)
562647 2007-06-25 10:47:00 What is AM-Deadlink johcar?

It checks to see whether your bookmarks are dead links or not.

562648 2007-06-25 10:54:00 Doesn't just check for deadlinks - it checks all your bookmarks (in most browsers) and downloads the favicon applicable to each. I suggested it because it might force IE to 'accept' your favicon. I had a similar problem with my website (in IE7) recently when I updated the favicon. Tried a number of things, including AM-Deadlink - not sure whether this was the straw that broke the camel's back, but it certainly came right shortly therafter... johcar (6283)
562649 2007-06-25 10:57:00 Or try FavOrg... Similar app, but less features...

And they're both FREE! Just fits my price. :)
