| 563523 | 2007-07-01 12:53:00 | I'm about 4+ km's away from the exchange and I experience regular disconnects on a daily basis. Cheers Ah! A chance to ask about these damn disconnects. What is it that causes broadband to disconnect on a regular (but not always daily) basis? Why does the connection just seem to stop at random? I have also noticed, that when it does, it's only http requests that seem to be affected - P2P, IM etc seem to carry on as normal. I get a few questions about this from time to time and it would be nice to have some answers for people. I note that it's not just Xtra customers that have this issue, a friend of mine is with TelstraClear and he gets random disconnects most days of the week - and has to reboot the modem, then all is OK. |

Contention ratios are very high, the network is highly over subscribed despite Telecom's best efforts to convince the NZ public otherwise. Until we get a better network infrastructure I would think that these disconnects will continue to occur. Cheers |

Sometimes, names of service areas bear absolutely no relevance to the locality name at all. |
