563844 2007-07-03 07:42:00 No file name is required if using Acronis Secure Zone.

Using the option " Restore disks or partition" has no problem.

This piece of software works great but seems a little slower than Ghost 2003.
Secure Zone is imaged to an area of the hard drive - if I recall correctly. That makes me nervous and I make my image to an external drive.
Misty :illogical

When I was evaluating Ghost I was impressed by how many people were of the opinion that Ghost 2003 was the most reliable Ghost ever !

Ghost 2003 failed me on several occasions when it stopped at the DOS Ghost screen. I could return to Windows on only one occasion but had to reinstall Windows on all the other cases. :(

The Start Up Recovery in Acronis is excellent, it can be done without having to use a startup boot disk. I know we can also do it with Norton Ghost (as discussed in my previous posts) but I don't know how to do it.

But my nightmare experiences with Ghost 2003 which hangs at the DOS screen really deters me from using it!

563846 2007-07-03 10:07:00 I've used Ghost for years. It was absolutely brilliant. Never had a problem ever.
The only reason I changed to Acronis was Ghost won't do sata2.

One hassle. My brother used Acronis today. He had a brand new drive and an image of one partition off his old drive.
Using its boot disk it would not see his portable USB drive at all.

And then he tried to get it to make a 30gb partitiuon and restore to it on the new one. It amde the whole 250GB drive 30GB.

There is meant to be the option to choose partition but he swears it didn't give him that. I dunno, booted off mine but because I was seeing my existing hdd I couldn't tell without trying it on a blank new drive.

He made the partitions with the Windows CD then imaged but still....little bit of a pain.

563847 2007-07-03 21:57:00 Just recalled my memory that all those machines that Ghost 2003 failed to complete the image backups were all AMD CPUs. Don't tell me that Norton doesn't support AMD!

Or maybe they just happened.

563848 2007-07-04 01:31:00 Hmmm. Interesting. At work I have a new HP 64bit AMD running WinXP. Ghost 2003 will hack up to another HD partition but for some reason can't see an expernal USB harddisk.. Have been thru all the settings which are the same as i use at home with a standard Intel 32 bit PC running Win2K and backs up fine to an external USB drive.. Maybe I should bring the drive from home in and test it on this PC.. paulw (1826)

This is the official Acronis forum. Just register and they give really excellent support.

Does the motherboard support USB drives? I've found with Ghost that if they do it sees USB drives but not always if they don't .

563851 2007-07-05 00:26:00 For Acronis
Make a Bootable Recovery disc, through Acronis. Insert and reboot and the Acronis disc will offer various choices. Go to Safe Mode and if a USB external disc is visible, then it's usable as a backup location.
