563479 2007-06-28 01:37:00 Good idea . I can see problems if a cure is about for public consumption .

I really think that is a least of worries . I'm afraid these are not the only forums that exist in the world .

There is plenty of information to help you get around Windows passwords and to be honest . . . I really believe the internet is a bit passed needing proof of purchase before it helps out others with issues .

A comprehensive list of options to fixing your issue is below . This is a common list that has popped up after a short google search .

These are not "hacking" techniques, they are simply technical tools to help computer users resolve a very common issue .

If you don't know what you are doing, call your local computer technician .

Run it to create a boot floppy then follow the instructions . If you choose to do this then you are doing this at your own risk . Just change the admin pw and login then change the account pw's that you desire .

Make sure you have a floppy disk in the floppy drive and let the program create the boot floppy . Now restart the machine a let it boot from the floppy . Now follow what it instructs you to do .

Use it like a bootdisk .

NTAccess can replace the administrator password of a Windows XP, Windows NT or Windows 2000 system by rebooting the computer with a special set of boot disks or CD-ROM (XP only) . This is useful if you forgot the administrator password and cannot access the Windows XP/2000/NT system .

Windows XP / 2000 / NT Key is a program to reset Windows XP / 2000 / NT security if Administrator password, secure boot password or key disk is lost .
. lostpassword . com/windows-xp-2000-nt . htm" target="_blank">www . lostpassword . com

Or you could, if you have a FAT32 file system, just boot to a Win98 bootdisk and rename the SAM file (registry Hive) in the C:\WINNT\system32\config folder to something else . Of course this will remove all accounts on the system and you will need to rebuild them . If you are using NTFS then boot to the Win2000 CD and do this from the Recovery console .

563481 2007-06-28 02:38:00 Did you really need to post all those? Just because the Internet is anonymous doesn't mean that everything goes. Thats why we don't put up bomb making recipes or how-to enrich uranium instructions here.

This might be a bit of a surprise to you but there are actually bad people on the Internet who need information to do nefarious activities. We try not to help them.

So i guess to stop the 5% who might be doing something malicious we punish the other 95% right?

Im just trying to help . I have read these forums for a very long time and I sometimes get the feeling there are more moral warriors around than people who are genuinely here to help with technical solutions .

563483 2007-06-28 03:45:00 If you call a teenager, visitor or jilted girlfriend trying to get the password for someones laptop and maybe all sorts from there then I am 110% for moral issues.I do not mean that in respect to this issue but you will gather what I mean. Not much would have been asked to just give a bit of reassurance to people. kjaada (253)

No-one has "punished" anyone .

Those with genuine problems are helped .

Smartasses and people trying to steal get told to *** off .

563485 2007-06-28 04:09:00 Try stolen laptop stats in Google.

Computer Theft & Recovery Statistics
Over 600,000 laptop thefts occurred in 2004, totaling an estimated $720 million in hardware losses and $5.4 billion in theft of proprietary information. Safeware Insurance, 2004
97% of stolen computers are never recovered. FBI
81% of companies reported the loss of one or more laptops containing sensitive information during the past 12 months. Ponemon Institute, 2006
The chances of a laptop being stolen are 1 in 10. Gartner Group, 2002

I vote to give imjason the boot - and, sorry, but I don't believe pou006's story.
