563423 2007-06-27 08:00:00 have a friend who uses Ms vista ( I told her NOT to buy it !).....she cant use banklink with vista she tells me that their website, and their tech support says it will work, however she just cant get it working. Her accountant has suggested she install or acquire windows XP because then banklink will work. The accountant seems adamant that vista does not work with banklink...

is anyone aware of any issues with banklink and vista and any fixes you may be aware of

563426 2007-06-27 09:42:00 I run Vista & had no problem accessing the banklink site, didn't go too far into it though.
I also run a duel boot with XP. You will find excellent info on the MS site.

563427 2007-06-27 10:22:00 I don't think accessing the site was the problem, but rather the software they talk about on the website isn't working for her. Tell her to right-click the shortcut she uses to start "BankLink" and select Properties. Jump over to the Compatibility tab and tick the "Run in compatibility mode" checkbox. This could possibly do it.

If not, you don't need to go as far as re-partitioning to dual boot XP just to use this software. If her machine has at least 1GB of RAM, then just use Virtual PC (www.microsoft.com) to run a virtualised XP on the desktop.

563428 2007-06-27 12:01:00 Or tell it to run as administrator . Vista can trip you up with security issues but the new Banklink 2007 says it will run on Vista . Surely, a support person can sort this out?

It seems a clobby exercise to run up XP every time a glitch occurs with software on Vista . Also, be aware that Virtual PC doesn't run with either Home version of Vista .

I'm sure you have the thinking on this the wrong way around. As I understood it, Vista Home editions aren't allowed to be installed into VPC environments, although Microsoft flip-flopped on this point recently. What I was suggesting was to install an XP install into a VPC environment. Otherwise, there are alternatives to VPC'07 (http://www.virtualbox.org/).

563430 2007-06-27 16:38:00 yeh it's the software not the site that is the problem.....

yes I agree it's silly to have to run xp

I have yet to view the problem pc myself....I had thought of virtual pc also as an alternative but I'm not sure how much ram the pc has I did tell her to upgrade it to 1gb it had 512mb originally so it's home basic I think.......

thanks I do agree it *should* run banklink....

Lol .

And what did you tell her? Ignore the tech person and listen to an accountant??!!!

Perhaps the accountant can take over some of your customers now, seeing as he/she is so knowledgable?

These latest flip flop messages confused me but when I tried to install PVC with my Home Premium the installer refused to install it telling me it was not allowed for Home versions. I then saw it confirmed on the MS site here:-
www.microsoft.com

A quote - The Virtual PC application requires a 400 MHz Pentium-compatible processor (1.0 GHz or faster recommended), and requires approximately 20 MB of disk space. It runs on Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Enterprise, Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows XP Professional, or Windows XP Tablet PC Edition.
