| 563179 | 2007-06-26 09:27:00 | I bought a new computer and had a choice between DDR2 667 or DDR2 800. I chose two 1gb sticks of DDR2 800 PC2-6400. So I start up CPU-Z and it tells me that I have a max bandwidth of 400Mhz. Is this due to the dual channels or should I be paying the shop a visit? |

| 563180 | 2007-06-26 09:37:00 | 400MHz is 800MHz in dual channel you have the right RAM, but is the BIOS set to Dual Channel? try a different program like Belarc and see if that says 400MHz RAM manufacturers say DDR2 800 to make it seem faster than it actually is but that speed is ONLY when it is in Dual Channel or a 100% overclock :eek: |

Dual channel has nothing to do with the speed the memory is running at. Dual channel merely users a 128bit memory bus as opposed to a 64bit bus with a single channel controller this then double the total memory throughput in the case of DDR800 from 6.4Gbits per sec to 12.8Gbits per sec. Have a read of this ("www.hexus.net) it explains why DDR800 is sometimes referred to as running at 400Mhz, DDR800 doesn't actually run at 800MHz ;) |
