563167 2007-06-26 06:55:00 Could someone please help me?

According to page 17 of the customer brief here www.telecom.co.nz the Dlink DSL-502T modem supports only ADSL1 connections on an Interleaved profile. I have a friend who got a Dlink from XTRA, how can I tell if it is one of those?, and What profile do telecom support?

According to the information here www.telecom.co.nz the next area to get ADSL2+ is St Albans, which is where my friend lives.

Could this be the reason that ADSL2+ rollout is slow? because XTRA modems do not support it?

Either flash the modem or buy another one if you are worried.

I think he was hoping for more than the 4Mb he gets now.

Where do I get the firmware for him from? The modem does not support ADSL2+ so I guess he will have to buy a new one, along with the other thousands of XTRA customers to get ADSL2+

Are the ones they give away now ADSL2+ supported?

563171 2007-06-26 07:39:00 You would have to go to the manufacturers site and search for the modem and the firmware will be there.

It looks like the DSL - 502T GEN II (jetstream.xtra.co.nz) supports ADSL2+

According to this site (www.telecom.co.nz)

And the DSL-G604T GEN II is ADSL2+ as well.

563172 2007-06-26 07:40:00 uh yeah, those thousands of customers will have to wait until Telecom starts supplying ADSL2+ to people living outside Pakuranga and god knows what they'll charge for it. People cant afford BB now, how are they going to pay for ADSL2+? beeswax34 (63)

You're reading a lot into 1 page that covers part of the testing done on 2 modems and the "profiles" or setup of the ISAMS. It does say "This is only a portion of the information available on this test."

563174 2007-06-26 08:34:00 Have a look at the Whirlpool forum reviews of Australian ADSL2+ users here (forums.whirlpool.net.au).

Buy a new modem - I have never heard of a flashable ADSL2+ modem. It is a function of the chipset I believe and not the firmware. I recommend Billion - cheap but fast and reliable. I bought mine a couple of years ago for $A145. No dropouts, up to 15Mbs down and 9Mbs up (when I lived about 800m from the exchange).

Or join an ISP that gives away a free modem that does support ADSL2+.
