563058 2007-06-26 03:11:00 ... and you could be liable for any online bank fraud loss if they find your security software is not up-to-date. Details here (blogs.pcworld.co.nz). Chris Keall (10417)
563059 2007-06-26 03:18:00 LOL, I'll go and use my mate's computer from now on..... porkster (6331)
563060 2007-06-26 03:20:00 A hacker would have to get into mine first, followed by the bank ;). I don't have a problem with secure banking online and I have no intention of using an internet cafe to do my online banking. I'm password protected, with firewall and no sharing. winmacguy (3367)
563061 2007-06-26 03:36:00 Fair enough too.

Heaven forbid, Personal responsibility! What is the world coming to...

The Banks standing up to the Nanny State? Good on 'em.

After working for one for 24 years I have little sympathy for those who blame everyone else for their slack-ass approach to risk and loss.

563062 2007-06-26 03:50:00 Well if they did 1/2 - 3/4 of this forum would fail. Speedy Gonzales (78)
563063 2007-06-26 04:12:00 honestly - its not THAT hard to install antivirus, anti Spyware software and maybe a firewall and set the scanners to do a weekly scan at a time your not using the computer - in most cases they update themselves so there really is no excuse - people should be taking these sort of precautions anyway if they are even thinking about moving any amount of money online

heh why do i care im only moving money online to buy laser pointers to annoy people with :p

/edit - If the banks start going "you must install X AV and X anti Spyware to use our service go here to pay $XXX " - then i will get irritated ever so slightly :O

563064 2007-06-26 05:02:00 Just updated my original blog with a couple of good points emailed from across the office:

As my collegue, Computerworld editor Rob O'Neill points out (blogs.pcworld.co.nz): "I find security hard - imagine how pensioners feel? Or people with kids downloading stuff?" (Note that while Rob says he finds security hard - hey, I get confused too - he's no duffer. The kid's just finished his first podcast (computerworld.co.nz), featuring discussion of the new banking code, plus goodies like an interview with AUT radio astronomer Sergei Gulyaev.)

563066 2007-06-26 06:05:00 Fair enough. Just as long as the customers have the right to do a security audit of the bank's computers. :D Graham L (2)
