2007-06-25 10:12:00 | Hey guys, I just hooked up my Desktop with my Laptop via ethernet and a "switch/hub?" thingee. Everything is all good and I can see both computers on the network except for when i try to open the "Desktop" folder from the Laptop. I can open the "Laptop" folder from the Desktop but not the other way around. It's the same when I share files, I can drag it "INTO" the Laptop from the Desktop, but not "OUT OF" the Desktop from the Laptop. I get this error message-: "\\Desktop is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions." I am Admin on both comps. So yeah, I can get into the laptop folder from the desktop but that error pops up when i try and get into the desktop from the laptop!! If this makes sense to anyone PLEASE HELP!!!!

2007-06-25 11:21:00 | nah, the settings are exactly the same on both comps, and the desktop is sharing to and from the laptop, its just that the laptop cant get into the desktop. | springa886 (10558) | |
2007-06-25 11:25:00 | What about firewalls?? Any firewall on either besides XP if both have XP? If so what? And do BOTH have the same workgroup name?

2007-06-25 22:59:00 | nope, no firewalls, just the good old XP one. I just realised that i can do this... 'From the laptop i can click Run - type \\Desktop\D\My Music and it will open that folder. But when i goto "My Network Places" and click on "View Workgroup Computers" both "Desktop" and "Laptop" are showing but when i click on "Desktop" that error comes up. Thats messed up huh?? P.S Yeah they both have the same workgroup names

2007-06-25 23:25:00 | I would just put a shortcut on the desktop for the other PC. Thats what I did, saves me going to My network places all the time. And I created a sendto shortcut for both. That way I can select any file from any folder on either, and it'll copy across to either. (the shared folder).

2007-06-25 23:28:00 | And I created a sendto shortcut for both. . Speedy, i know you can do that, but how?? I have wanted to for a while, but havn't got around to researching how to!;)

Then right mouse / new / shortcut . If you want to make a shortcut to a shared folder, on a networked PC, click on browse, my network places, the other PC's shared folder (hopefully it appears), then OK . Or to make it easier before u click on browse, type in \\user\sharedfolder . (whatever the name is of the other PC and the name of the shared folder) . To test it go to any folder and select any file right mouse send to option, and the name u created above . If it works it'll copy the file . |

2007-06-26 01:21:00 | ive already tried that man, even when i open the shortcut that error msg comes up. Seems to me that the only way i can do it is thru "Run." This cant be normal man, someone come over to my place and suss it out for me. I live in Tokoroa lol

2007-06-26 01:26:00 | Make a folder in C: somewhere, share it on both. It sounds like the laptop has got something on it thats blocking things.
