| 562628 | 2007-06-25 06:09:00 | I've just reinstalled the modem driver (after formatting/reinstalling Ubuntu Feisty, and copying all updates, to an XP folder). So HOPEFULLY I never have to download 320 or so mb again! I got sick of that script thing in KPPP, I wiped everything in it. Since you've still got your username and pw (so why would you need the script bit)? I'm trying to figure out, how to get KPPP to connect. I've just started to get this error: (it says pppd starting after a few secs, it says it died unexpectantly). The PPP negotiation failed because serial Loopback was detected. I've been thru a few sites in Google/Yahoo, and typed man pppd in terminal, since the error when it came up said to do this, to tell me what it means. Well, the manual, Google and Yahoo tell me jack lol. Just the error, not how to fix it. Pon and Poff work fine, thru terminal. I connect no prob at all. So, what file or option should I be checking to find this serial loopback option (if its an option somewhere)?? Anyone know?? I know the modem is working as the system detects it, it dials out it connects, and KPPP detects it on /dev/modem. And I'm using it in XP right now! |

| 562630 | 2007-06-25 06:40:00 | Internal / Intel 536EP modem. The driver is installed and all. So its working. Its just this annoying serial loopback error whatever that means, thats stopping KPPP from connecting. |

| 562631 | 2007-06-25 07:01:00 | serial loop back, could be compared as a crossover utp. It changes pinouts on a serial cablefor testing. Sorry I dont know how or a fix. Where did you get the driver?. Unbutu does support SOME win modem chipsets but not all. tried here (downloadcenter.intel.com) |

| 562632 | 2007-06-25 07:09:00 | Like I said, I can connect thru terminal I can use pon and poff to connect and disconnect. No prob at all. The driver is a later version of Intel's one, and was MUCH easier to install since its a deb file. And once u install the deb file, it installed and configured the settings etc that needed to be done. Exactly what the Intel driver does, but without the user having to do it manually. I'm not using a serial cable its PCI. KPP (the KDE dialler detects the modem as well). Its just this error (between me and Ihug). |

And whatever error code this is The user/pw is exactly the same as pon and that connects no prob. I think it maybe KPPP, its just a HOPELESS program. Ah ok, I havent tried that nomagic thing yet, I'll try it now. Ta Sounds like the same thing I was getting. |

| 562637 | 2007-06-25 09:07:00 | So pon/poff works 100%? i.e. detects the modem, connects to the net? (Its been a long time since I played with dialup on linux so have forgotten what app does what). If this is correct, what are you trying to do? Avoid console? |
