564664 2007-06-30 21:39:00 Hi all, im having trouble with my pc (obv! :) )

I recently moved my comp from one place to another. I've just set it all back up and turned it on to find its saying something along the lines of 'Floppy Disk detection Error', 'System Halt' and mentioning something about Drive A. The thing is, i don't have a floppy disk drive! Have i damaged my pc whilst moving it around or is there something i can do?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

564665 2007-06-30 21:56:00 Sounds like the floppy option is enabled in the BIOS?

Or the floppy is the boot disk in the BIOS??

So when u boot up, its looking for it.

564666 2007-07-01 10:05:00 The fact that it is trying to boot from a floppy disk suggests that there is something wrong with the hard drive. Can you hear the hard drive spinning up? I would get into the BIOS and check that it can see the hard drive (first BIOS screen). If it can't, there is something fundamentally wrong. Switch off, remove mains plug, and check/reseat all connections to and from the hard drive. Try powering up again. linw (53)
564667 2007-07-08 23:22:00 hi guys thanks for your replies ;)

well i can't access the bios and the fact that the same error message shows even when the hard drive isn't even connected seems to suggest that it's f**cked! haha

i don't know what to try, i don't really fancy throwing a grands worth of kit away. i don't exactly earn big bucks so its not like i can replace anything major either.

all that it does when the powers turned on is show the afformentioned error message and is accompanied by a loud rapid beeping noise.

any ideas?

thankyou both for replying anyway x

564668 2007-07-09 00:24:00 Do you have the manual for your motherboard? The beep-codes are usually specific to the BIOS manufacturer, and should help tell you what the problem is. Hopefully, these codes are listed in your manual.

Failing that, please post your exact motherboard model and revision, and the exact beep pattern - this will allow us to find the correct beepcodes.

Whether the HDD is connected or not means nothing if the HDD isn't set in the BIOS at all.

How did you try accessing the BIOS?
