| 564214 | 2007-06-29 04:28:00 | without disabling internet connection. I tried to download a Microsoft Office Help video from within Excel 2007 (trial version). The download started, with the warning that it may take a while. After about 1/2 an hour of constant downloading I logged out. Logged back in later, and something is stilldownloading. If I block internet traffic, ZoneAlarm comes up with the alert: generic host process for win32 services tried to connect (or receive) from the internet. There is nothing showing up as active in Windows Task manager except an instance of svchost.exe, which isn't using any CPU but has a rising memory usage (24,904K and rising). Will it do any harm to end the svchost process and see what happens? |

| 564215 | 2007-06-29 04:34:00 | Update: I had a rush of blood to the head, terminated the process, download has stopped, computer hasn't crashed. No longer a problem, but thanks for looking |

I wouldn't advise downloading using Internet Explorer or Firefox, since both of these programs have relatively poor downloading assistance. Perhaps using third-party programs such as FreeDownloadManager might help in pausing and resuming downloads. Cheers :) |

It's a new computer, just being set up - I hadn't intended bothering with a download manager until I load something big to download (EVE online for instance), but I'll take your advice and get one sooner rather than later. | annie (6010) | ||
