565242 2007-07-03 03:40:00 I've just built a box with a Foxcon M/board,(661FX4MR-E) Celeron 2.4Ghz cpu, 1GB DDR Ram, Win 2K pro OS, I have a 56k DSE HaModem installed but Windows just doesn't see it  . I'm using a USB modem to connect but it is only going at 28Kbps. The phone line is ok and the line is plugged directly into the wall jack. I'd rather be using my HaModem, Ive used it before in another box and was getting 50 Kbps. How can I get Windows to see my modem? ned888 (9091)
565243 2007-07-03 03:49:00 Is it one of these ? (search.dse.co.nz)

If it is, select the right one and download the drivers, unzip them, then install them.

Windows doesnt detect / install drivers for all modems. You have to install drivers for some of them.

565244 2007-07-03 04:00:00 Yes, it's xh1154. I know that some modems need the drivers installed first and I have done that with the drivers I got with the modem. it's a couple of years old so I will d/load the ones on the DSE website and try again, but I suspect they won't be any different to what I already have:( ned888 (9091)
565245 2007-07-03 04:03:00 Well they should work, if u install them thru device manager (thru the modem entry in device manager).

If the drivers are installed now did u install them thru device manager?

I take it the modem doesnt appear under the dialup ??

565246 2007-07-03 04:33:00 Have D/loaded driver package from DSE. It consists of 4 files, Intels51.sys, .cat,.inf and migrate.dll. So no .exe to load. The only modem I see in device manager is the USB one. I can point at the .inf file in 'hardware wizard' but come up with a blank. ned888 (9091)

You dont have an exe file. The inf file is what needs to be loaded.

Disconnect the USB modem, and reboot. Then see if the hardware wizard comes up, (and detects the PCI modem), point it to the folder that inf file is in.

Select that inf file, it'll do the rest. And if the wizard doesnt come up the modem maybe dead, or put it in another PCI slot. (With the PC off), then reboot again.

565248 2007-07-03 04:53:00 I think I may have the answer to my problem:rolleyes: I have been neglecting a big fat yellow question mark in device manager beside 'simple PCI controller'. I looked for drivers thru Windows update via 'hardware wizard' and lo and behold, there were the drivers for an "Intel(R) 536EP Modem", which is now showing in device manager. So I will reboot ,unplug the USB modem and see if I can connect with my HaModem.
Back later.

Thats it the PCI controller. Double click on it / properties / driver tab / update driver, point it to that inf file.

DON'T get ANY drivers from Windowsupdate, they'll screw things up. You may find this out, when u cant dial up.

Install the driver u got from DSE.

565250 2007-07-03 05:10:00 Sorry Speedy. Didn't see your last post and got the drivers thru Windows Update. Everything is working AOK and I'm getting a healthy 52Kbps. Should I stick with the current drivers or reinstall the ones I got from DSE? Thanks for your great help Speedy, it's great to be able to have someone like you to give advice.:nerd: ned888 (9091)
565251 2007-07-03 05:16:00 Well see how long they last, keep the DSE drivers as backup anyway.

Good to hear its going!

Actually if its the 536EP, its the same modem I'm using here.
