565221 2007-07-02 22:22:00 Hi,

I Am Looking For A Router That Will Allow Me To Share My USB Drives Over The LAN & IF Available The Internet Via FTP. It Needs To Have Wireless But No Intergrated Storage. I Found The DI-624S From D-Link
( Here (www.dlink.com) ) Which Seems Perfect But Some Online Reviewers Have Said It Is Slow. Is This True? And If So Is There A Router That Will Do The Job That I Haven't Found.

565222 2007-07-03 00:32:00 Hey fella,

Having had experience with the DI-624S, I can honestly say, yes it works, but it has a number of deficiencies - it runs on USB 1.1 for starters, and the USB drives have to be FAT32 - it does not support NTFS, which for most drives means reformatting, and copying everything back on to it again......

I flagged mine, because it was just more trouble than it was helpful.

Personally, I would suggest get three separate pieces of equipment that do the three jobs for you, e.g. a separate ADSL gateway, separate router (wired & wireless), and then a separate storage link. I run Linksys for all my stuff now given I got frustrated with the reliability of D-Link, and can only recommend them - they have various products, so have a good old look around!

565223 2007-07-03 03:11:00 Hi,

I Looked On The Linksys Site And Found The WRTSL54GS (www.linksys.com) Which Is A Storage Router Exactly Like The DI-624S. I Also Found The WRT350N (www.linksys.com)
Which One Of These Would Be Better? I Like The WRTSL54GS Better Because It Is Just b/g Not b/g/n Which Could Be Worthless Later.

565225 2007-07-03 06:37:00 I wouldn't expect stellar performance from any form of NAT, all the benchmarks and reviews I've read has shown them not performing particularly well. Linksys are a very good brand, but if the products aren't available then they aren't available. Netgear make some good products check out there website and see if they make a product that suits your needs.

What sort of USB storage mediums are you using? If its external harddrive why not just but the harddrive in external NAT enclosure and eliminate USB from the equation?

WRT350N is not hard to find. I can order one plus any dealer that sources from ingram micro. Try likes of PB Technology. currently 19 available.

Have dealt with them twice in the last couple of weeks and have had outstanding service. Impressed with their all round knowledge and friendly approach. (I sound like an advert - but that is what I experienced !)

Do you mean NAS (Network attached Storage)?

NAS may not be suitable - it is nowhere near as convenient as USB when you want to take your hard drive to another location, and if the external drives are the type not designed to be taken apart rather than a drive & an enclosure, the initial setup can be very frustrating.
