| 564820 | 2007-07-01 10:27:00 | long story short, i have a compaq f551 laptop I came with vista basic that sucked put xp on it then upgraded to vista premium using a upgrade copy bought from DSE this was over my xp install and using xp licence not the vista basic one can i put the vista basic on another machine? and can i use the vista premium dvd to do that using the basic serial number on the compaq laptop |

| 564821 | 2007-07-01 11:48:00 | No, the Vista Basic would have been an OEM version which is non-transferable. With OEM you don't have the option of transferring it between machines which is why it is a 'cheaper option'. That said, it probably is possible but not legal. |
