564788 2007-07-01 09:16:00 I have been a broadband customer with xtra for 3 years and for the most part have been pleased with the service. I am a keen World of Warcraft player, and in the last 3 mths have been suffering an increasing number of disconnects :annoyed: . There appears to be no pattern as to server population affecting this issue, nor any pattern as to frequency - some days are good, more are not so good, some are terrible.I read a list of recommendations on the official WoW website, which included checking firewall settings, and drivers for network cards and modems.I checked my firewall settings and they matched Blizzard's recommendations.I updated the network card drivers. The website for D-Link said to contact xtra re firmware upgrades etc for the specific model of modem supplied by them.I rang xtra and spoke to a phone-jockey who refused to acknowledge my question re patches/updates and said that if I could connect to the internet my problem was nothing to do with xtra. I update and use antivirus, firewall, and anti-spyware programs religiously, and am certain this is not a malware problem. I have since purchased a new Toshiba laptop and find the problem is ongoing, with the new added twist of not infrequent freezes when browsing the net. Can anyone offer any advice? I don't know what the working life of an adsl modem is, but I've had the one supplied by xtra for nearly 3yrs and it gets plenty of use. My machine runs an Intel Core 2 T7200, 2gb ram, Go7900GTX, Windows XP with SP2.I have yet to try updating any drivers on this machine or attempt to update (with some trepidation) the BIOS.The modem is an xtra supplied D-Link DSL302G. 564789 2007-07-01 10:14:00 Oh, dear, a 302g!! Disconnections are a feature of the 302g! I have seen some work sort of OK after a firmware update but I've got one here that still won't work after updating .

If I were you, I would seriously consider a different modem/router . In saying that, no guarantees, of course!

Others will reply so you could get a better consensus later .

Good luck .

564790 2007-07-01 10:48:00 I have both the 302g and the 502t and they both tend to 'freeze' the net at times......the only way to cure it is to reboot the modem........try to ensure you have good air flow around the modem they do get hot.......it could be in the process of failing.....the only way to ascertain that is to try another modem for a while.... drcspy (146)
564791 2007-07-01 11:01:00 I have an 302g about the same age as your one and it exhibits the same random disconnections (at least in the last six months or so). Whether it is the modem or telephone line, I'm not 100% sure. maccrazy (6741)
