564763 2007-07-01 06:38:00 Hi, Yesterday I set up xnet wireless broadband for my house. I'm using a D-Link DSL G604T Wireless router to get broadband going to 2 desktop computers.
The plan im on is the xnet "flood" plan ( up to 7.6 mb ) but I've been running several speed tests and this computer ( the one with the router on it ) is only getting speeds of between 1 and 2 mbps, and the other computer around 500 kbps to 1.5 mbps :annoyed: .

What can be causing this, xnet or my router?
Are there any settings I may have screwed up on, or is it just slow?
And since ive set up the router, a constant annoying tapping sound comes out of the speakers. ( they're Altec Lansing speakers ).
And Im on Christchurch if that helps with anything.

Cheers!:D

Or ring them.

I am with Speedy here, get in contact with Xnet & see what they say.

It could also be your exchange you’re connected to is overloaded.

Best of luck :)

PS: One thing to note is you wont get up to full 7.6 mbps (I have yet to know any one to get up to the full 7.6 mbps) so getting 200 - 500 kbps + is good

564766 2007-07-01 09:32:00 At least to me, it's not clear whether you are measuring wireless or wired speeds. You say you are using wireless to two desktops then speak of the desktop with the router on it. Do you have one desktop connected to the router by ethernet cable and the other via the wireless link? linw (53)

Yeah, sorry for making it unclear.
The computer with the ethernet cable is getting better download speeds than the other ( as should everyone else )

Oh, and thanks for replying guys :)

564768 2007-07-01 21:06:00 1-2 Mbps is a bit low. For example, I am on a 2Mbps plan and my XP box gets 1.8Mbps and my Vista, 2.4 Mbps on average. But I can't tell you why yours is lowish. Switching to Vista will help! linw (53)
