564750 2007-07-01 06:32:00 Has anyone recently upgraded from Ad-Aware SE Plus to the 2007 version? If so have you been aware of any bugs in the new version? Personally I have found it to be very buggy even after all the testing that was supposed to have been done. From what I have read on the Lavasoft forums most people are dumping it and going back to the SE Plus version till the bugs are ironed out.
Is it neccessary to have this programme installed at all? I currently use NOD32, Spybot, Registry Mechanic and Spyware Doctor and of course Ad-Aware SE Plus as my main lines of defence.

564751 2007-07-01 06:40:00 I'm still on the SE version for my XP Pro which I just keep current. What web browser do you use, because if you use FF then you probably don't need ad aware SE. winmacguy (3367)
564752 2007-07-01 06:42:00 No u dont need all of them well NOD32 u can keep, since u most probably paid for it.

I used to use Spybot and Ad-aware. Everytime I updated Spybot, (the updates from within it), it kept on stopping and would never finish the update.

This happened nearly everytime I updated something (but it still installed whatever update, as the update didnt come up again).

When I checked for updates later.

I killed it.

I havent used Ad-aware for 3-4 yrs.

I just use Trojan remover, Avast Pro, Rogueremover.

And Comodo for the firewall.

And ccleaner to get rid of the crap / registry stuff.

Just be careful what program/s u use to fix invalid registry enrtries, as some can remove valid entries and make your system unusable.

564753 2007-07-01 06:44:00 Don't use the 2007 version of AAW. Far too many bugs in it.

I'm still using the Personal SE edition. Coupled with a couple other utils.

Hi winmacguy, I have XP Home edition with all the updates. I use Firefox and Opera as my browsers (dumped anything to do with IE a long time ago). Are you saying that Ad-Aware (whatever model) is not going to do the job that it says it will and I have just parted with money for nothing? From what I have read in the L/S Forums this appears to be the way people are thinking.
Fortunately I still have the SE Plus disc and will use that till I am sure that all the bugs have been ironed out-otherwise AA 2007 get's binned.

That pretty much sums it up for FF and Ad aware on Windows.
Since I am now using an iMac as opposed to Windows I don't have to scan for any sort of crapware anymore.

564756 2007-07-01 07:22:00 It doesnt matter WHAT browser u use or have.

You can stilll get adware/spyware/rogue SW, by downloading and installing the wrong software.

I agree 100% there Speedy, my comment was just in reference to FF stopping a lot of the same stuff that Ad Aware picks up, but you still need the likes of AVG/Avast, Rogue remover and the rest for Windows in order to keep the rogue software of your system. FF stops a lot of the stuff that IE lets through (no thanks to DirectX)
