565341 2007-07-03 15:54:00 LOL this thread cracks me up, all the posters just seemed confused. Speedy there are several routers with gigabit floating around but there not mainstream yet. Joe do they even have 100mbit internet in the states?

handya what brand/model gigabit NIC are you using? Did it come with any software? All i can think of is that you may need to set the NIC to run in gigabit mode either through software or if its integrated then the BIOS.

Not in the area I live in, but it is available to others..right now I am waiting for FiOS to get dragged into my neighborhood.

It is 500 feet away with the new construction across the street and since I have some very bad copper, they have heard mightily and long from me about needing it.

565342 2007-07-03 22:33:00 if you go to the NIC's properties, and choose connection speed, there should be options for 10, 100, 1000 (all half and full duplex) and autonegotiation .

sometimes autoneg . doesn't work properly and will set the speed to something less than optimal for your hardware . . . saying this, if you do force any specific setting, make sure the other PCs are set to the same thing, having some half and some full duplex can actually cause worse performance
