| 565178 | 2007-07-03 22:12:00 | I know that a video card isn't really necessary for (e.g.) photo editing, but I figured that if it was only going to cost $70 it might be worth it to avoid the main RAM being used for graphics. Perhaps I would be better off spending the extra on more RAM? $690 as it is (from Ascent). Good or not? That Asus card will use the system RAM, it only has 64MB on board and gobbles up system memory to get the 256MB total. Specs here (www.asus.co.nz) Still, it should be quick enough for most photo editing situations. |

| 565179 | 2007-07-04 00:26:00 | I've built a machine with a similar asus mb with onboard Geforce 6100 graphics and was quite surprised how well it worked, even managing to squeeze 125 fps out of Quake 3 @ 800 x 600 ( old game I know ). It did seem to have an issue with using some analogue LCD monitors on the VGA out - the white was way too bright and no amount of adjusting got it sorted, but swapping monitors with another pc fixed them both so no real prob for me, I've seen a compaq with the same onboard videa exhibiting the same behaviour so it may be an inherent issue with them. The DVI worked fine but can't be run through an adaptor to use an analogue monitor so if you want to use dual screens one has to be DVI & one Analogue |

Integrated graphics will be fine on a 22" LCD as long as he's not gaming. If you engaged your brain for a second and read the thread you'd see jackwass just wants to use it for photo editing. |

If you engaged your brain for a second and read the thread you'd see jackwass just wants to use it for photo editing . Huh, you never guess . People will sure get into gaming sometime . You just don't know the time but I'm sure he will . And complain about crap graphics card . :illogical Why does people ask me to change my old ATI 9250 for a better graphics card, since I'm using a 22" LCD with that . Anyway I bet he is not even getting a 22" just take my option as a flying plane . Do you have to jump in? Stay out of my options and treat it like a flying plane if you can't stand it . Normally people will perfer a 19" 17" or 15" monitor . 22" inch is just too fancy, so ignore me and go find something else to do . Do your homework first on people's perference, you know this dude is building a low end PC why 22"? You are the one should stay out unless you like listening to fictional stories . |

It may surprise you but there are some people in this world who will never use their PC for gaming, jackwass might just be one of those people;) I've done my homework, if you read his other thread you'd know what sort of screen he was buying, so unlike you i actually know what hes buying and i know what he intends to use it for . Nobody said he was buying a 22" , you were the idiot who said the integrated graphics on the 690G wouldn't run a 22" screen which is wrong, it will run it fine it just wont allow for gaming . There no reason why someone cant run a 22" screen on a low end PC . If you were flying a plane there no way in hell I'd go within 10km of the airport, let alone get in the actual plane . |

Color qualities will affect from weak graphics card? Mr. Know it all? |

So you think you are MR. know it all aye? well you are not! Even intergrated GFX will be fine on a 22" monitor, I had a PC with 8MB intergrated GFX and that ran fin at 1600x1200 32 Bit since you are a n00b I will explain... 1600x1200 is the resolution, 32 bit is the quality and 8MB is the amount of video RAM. The monitor will make more difference in the quality of the image far before the GFX card will (assuming this is non gaming and 2D use) |

| 565186 | 2007-07-05 11:49:00 | Ok, I didn't want to instigate an argument (or inflame it) but as I noted at the very beginning I already have a monitor - that is indeed pretty large (20"). I do not anticipate that I will have any problem running the monitor off low-end graphics (whether that's integrated or a cheap card) seeing as I am now running it off an atrociously underpowered laptop without any trouble. __________________________________ Thanks for peoples' comments - what I will most likely do is get integrated graphics (seeing as it should provide just about as good performance as a low-end card), perhaps the one suggested by Pete. That'll save me enough money to double the harddrive. I will have to fork out a little extra to get a bigger case...although I still have to choose one! |
