| 565273 | 2007-07-03 04:57:00 | I have both a Hotmail and a G-mail e-mail account. The user name for the G-mail account is the same as the Hotmail account but with my name in front. Funnily enough, letters from people to whom I have given my Hotmail address sometimes end up in my G-mail file. This is weird. Is there anything I can do to stop those other than completely altering the user name? Maybe that wouldn't even work, because I would have thought my name in front of it would completely alter the address. | Guerilla Surgeon (6848) | ||
| 565274 | 2007-07-03 10:14:00 | So one is like GuerillaSurgeon@gmail.com and the other is like Surgeon@hotmail.com? That does make it completely different - at least as far as a mail server is concerned. Perhpas your friend just took a guess and emailed you at the other address. |

| 565276 | 2007-07-03 21:28:00 | Well, the addresses are more like guerillasurgeon@ Hotmail.com and Fred. guerillasurgeon@gmail.com. And these e-mails are from people who have only been given the former. There is absolutely no mistake on my part or their part, because I have checked with them -- they only received the Hotmail address, and one of them did not know the shortened form of my name which I usually use, which is part of the Gmail address. Still weird. | Guerilla Surgeon (6848) | ||
| 565277 | 2007-07-04 04:20:00 | This doesn't add up. It doesn't matter about the username in front of the @ being the same or different. It could be exactly the same because each mail server has no idea of usernames on any other server. It'd be a funny old world should every server be cross checking all other servers. How do you view the emails? Do you check them both via the web browser interface? And when you go to the gmail 'all mail' and dbl click an 'offending' email and click on 'show details' it has your recipient address as the hotmail one? Wow, that's clever. And impossible! That gmail interface can have absolutely no idea of your other email accounts. OK, that's me out on a limb! Let's hear back from you. |
