564803 2007-07-01 09:59:00 I have been trying to install Ubuntu from the PC world DvD.

I have burnt the iso to a dvd but it just will not boot to the ubuntu screen takes me direct to windows .

I can confirm that my dvd is set to boot first in bios.

I have made several attempts but have finally given up.

Can anyone help me here please.

Regards Rob

564804 2007-07-01 10:08:00 Did you burn the ISO as an "image" type file using your DVD burning software? If it was burnt correctly, you will see various files and folders on the DVD when viewed with Windows Explorer. If burnt incorrectly there will just be the single ISO file visible on the disk.

Welcome to PressF1 as well. :)

564805 2007-07-01 10:12:00 Thank you for replying Jen.

Seems as if my burning is incorrect as I only see the iso file in explorer.
Thanks.

564806 2007-07-01 10:14:00 What program (and version) are you using to burn the DVD? Jen (38)
564807 2007-07-01 10:23:00 I would assume you used the native CD-burning method by way of dragging the image to your CD/DVD-writer drive? Well if I'm right (I'm probably wrong) then a quick help app in this situation is IsoRecorder (isorecorder.alexfeinman.com). Just download the relevant version depending on your OS, follow the directions on the website and you should be right. sal (67)
564808 2007-07-03 12:28:00 Nero can also do it if you select "burn an image" from one of the menus (I think it's the file menu - I don't have Nero on this PC) Faded_Mantis (79)
564809 2007-07-03 22:11:00 Thanks people have all working apart from internet.

I am not able to get the cable modem to work.

I have copied from
ipconfig the details to the options in eth0 and also tried eth1 to no avail.

My modem supplied by Telstra is
Motorala Surfboard SB5100 USB Cable Modem

I have been informed that I should use the ethernet port.(Lan ?)

Any one help me here is it just a matter of replacing the usb cable with an ethernet cable? I have tried looking for tech info on the modem but no luck.
