566044 2007-07-05 08:23:00 I just clicked the "System Information ..." button on my Catalyst Control Centre and seen that my Total Physical Memory is 512.00MB (teeny huh? ) but my Available Memory is 133.27MB. Is it supposed to be like that? Also, i seen that there is something called virtual memory??? I don't know about anybody else but i like the sound of having more memory without having to buy "more memory!!!" What's the go with "Virtual Memory??" Pros/Cons???
Cheers guys

566045 2007-07-05 08:27:00 Virtual memory (en.wikipedia.org)

You'll soon find out you're running out of physical ram, the hdd makes a hell of a noise.

What are u using onboard video or AGP or other? How much ram is on it?

566046 2007-07-07 00:50:00 Virtual memory as a name for hard drive storage is actually a really bad name. RAM ("Main Memory") is only one form of memory. Generally the levels are:

Processor Registers <-> Cache <-> Main Memory (DRAM) <-> Secondary Memory (Disk)

Processor registers are the fastest, smallest (capacity) and most expensive while hard disk space is the slowest, largest and cheapest. The others are at intermediate points. The virtual memory space of a computer program consists of memory stored at all levels in the hierarchy but appears to the program as a continuous block of space. This technique allows computers to provide a very large amount of memory to processes while providing optimal usage of the fastest and most expensive memory storage.

Sorry, you want more you have to go buy another RAM module and install it .

Its not that expensive . . . . . . . . . . . .

Cheers guysWhat type of Video Card are you talking about? Mid-Range? High-Range? Enthusiasm class?
And what DX version do you want DX9 or DX10?
Price range please? Because a graphics card can cost up to $1000+.
That's all, if you give me the info I can help you.

566050 2007-07-07 09:07:00 I thought we were talking about new RAM... springa886 (10558)
566051 2007-07-07 09:13:00 I thought we were talking about new RAM...OK, no problem, but we need your current RAM i.e. is it one stick of RAM or two stick or RAM.
If you have one stick and your MOBO supports dual channel we might have to look back the exactly same RAM.
MOBO info please?

566052 2007-07-07 09:18:00 Okay i found it... MOBO - MICRO-STAR MS-7142, and it has 2 slots, ive already been nosey and had a look! springa886 (10558)
566053 2007-07-07 09:40:00 Okay i found it... MOBO - MICRO-STAR MS-7142, and it has 2 slots, ive already been nosey and had a look!I see it is a DDR right?
It didn't say about Dual Chanel anyway.

Here's one RAM you might consider:
Legend DDR 512MB PC3200 512MB DDR 400MHZ DIMM 184-pin
$52.85 C1 Shoppingmall

I know Hynix is cheaper but might not compatible with the system.
