2007-07-04 01:51:00 | Am using PS7. If I open a new doc and create a new layer and then draw a circle (or anything else), I can't select that drawing on that layer. Curiously, if I use text then I can select that. I must have stuffed up a setting. Can anyone help please? | yorkshirekid (9033) | |

2007-07-04 02:18:00 | That helped but not doing what it should. If I use the move tool I should be able to select the drawing - I can't. If I right click on the new layer it says 'background'. Something is amiss. Is there any way to reset EVERYTHING to default settings without a reinstall? | yorkshirekid (9033) | |
2007-07-04 02:42:00 | Your initial background layer is locked by default. duplicate the layer and you will be able to move the object I just checked it in PSD 7 to confirm. You can move the text because that goes on its own layer by default.

2007-07-04 03:05:00 | Nope - this is driving me nuts. All used to be ok and now it's turned to custard. Your advice doesn't work I'm sorry. Lets try this step by step. 1 fire up PS 2 file/new/rgb mode/white contents 3 right click background layer / duplicate the bugger 4 draw an ellipse on that layer 5 select the move tool 6 now what I see are 4 handles at each centre edge of the canvas. the ellipse isn't selected at all 7 click and drag and I see a box (from 6) being dragged. The ellipse remains untouched. 8 pull out hair...........

2007-07-04 03:19:00 | From memory there's a setting that applies several variations to how the "box" can be dragged. One setting is "open": fully draggable, the other has dragging restrictions applied. Sorry I can't remember offhand where these settings are located but have a look around.

2007-07-04 03:28:00 | Just discovered that I can draw anything with the ellipse, rectangle, line etc tools and then cannot select them. BUT, if I use the pencil or brush tool I can draw and select ok. It's as if the former tools are somehow on an invisible inaccessible layer. | yorkshirekid (9033) | |
2007-07-04 03:33:00 | GOT IT........... Needed to click on icon on top task bar = Shape Layers. I had Paths selected. I knew it was simple (waddya mean like me..........!!) Thanks for helping though.
