565772 2007-07-05 23:39:00 is the e6850 the newer better version of the e6700? what should i go for out of the two? sorry complete noob GHOSTN (12510)
565773 2007-07-06 00:38:00 Very little performance benefit at present as C2D has not saturated the 1066 bus yet.
The C2D is all about Memory, fast memory whereas the AM2 is about RAM latency as it has a full speed memory controller on its on cpu.

The only situation where this cpu will benefit you is where you have slower memory and need to run dividers for OC'ing.

2-4% increase over like speed previous version

565775 2007-07-06 02:11:00 will the e6850 work with the asus p5b motherboard? GHOSTN (12510)
565776 2007-07-06 06:29:00 Good for the quad core, the small difference in clock speed will make little difference. Even a small overclock can easily remedy the difference in FSB and clock speed. Pete O'Neil (6584)
565777 2007-07-08 06:24:00 anyone? GHOSTN (12510)
565778 2007-07-08 21:41:00 It should work in the P5B, you will have to flash the bios to allow the board to take the faster FSB.

ASUS haven't updated their site to say it will, so you should confirm with them. I am pretty sure it was part of the latest Bios update though.

565779 2007-07-08 23:17:00 I thought there was something about older chipsets not being able to take quad-cores, but a newer revision of the same chipset could handle it.

I have no idea what the case is with that Asus

No, I don't think so.

There was an interview somewhere on the net with a Gigabyte representative, and he said so far only the 975 chipset can support up to 1333MHz FSB, and the only way they could make the 965 chipset to handle 1333MHz FSB was to change the voltage regulator or something. They have to make physical changes, rather than just a BIOS update.

That is why Gigabyte's v1.0 965P motherboards cannot support the newer C2Ds, while the v3.3 can, even though they are the same models.
