| 566728 | 2007-07-07 04:58:00 | I've been using MS Messenger (aka Windows Live Messenger) on Win XP for quite some time now, and I've never really experienced any major problems with it. However, over the last few months, a certain percentage of Messenger messages have, for some reason, failed to be sent and/or received. This has made for some rather frustrating conversations, because it is not immediately apparent to either party that a message has been lost. Once someone realises that they haven't received a message, the other person has to copy & paste the original message and resend it again. This started happening after I added a wireless router to my network. Eventually, I got so fed up with missing messages, I disconnected my router and went back to a direct cable connection (TelstraClear broadband, plugged straight into my laptop's network card). Though that seemed to improve the situation, some WLM messages still seemed to disappear into oblivion. A couple of weeks ago, one of my regular WLM contacts installed broadband for the first time, via ADSL. Since then, our percentage of missing messages seems to have skyrocketed again. Does anyone know what's going on, and how we can fix this? Cheers! |

(MirandaIM) I suggest you try YahooIM (msn accounts should work) or switch to something different completely. You may miss a few feature, but I would rather be able to communicate normally than be unable to communicate and have some fancy **** I never even use anyway. |

| 566732 | 2007-07-07 12:00:00 | Nice idea. Thanks. However, sometime since this problem started, I had to do a completely new install of XP, anyway, because my original HDD failed and it was replaced under warranty. So, the OS has already been reinstalled and all the apps have been replaced with the newest versions. Also, my main WLM contact is experiencing exactly the same problem... so it's not isolated to my own PC. I haven't run any network diagnostics yet, no. Are there any (free!) utilities that you can recommend? I'd appreciate any further advice. Cheers! |
