566447 2007-07-06 08:40:00 Can I make a WinXP disk so that it installs onto a formatted harddisk without having to install Win 98 first? bpt2 (6653)
566448 2007-07-06 09:04:00 Just boot from the WinXP disc and go from there. FoxyMX (5)
566449 2007-07-06 09:06:00 An XP CD is bootable, so all u have to do is change the bootdisk in the BIOS to the CD.

Reboot, then it should go to the install screen. So it installs.

You dont need the 98 cd or have to install 98 before u install XP.

I take it u have the XP CD?

566450 2007-07-06 20:12:00 Are you getting confused because you have an XP upgrade disc?
If that's so, don't worry. As the previous posts have said, just boot from the CD. You will be prompted to insert your Win 98 disc for validation of your upgrade eligibility during installation.

In BIOS your boot order should be:

1. Floppy
2. CDROM
3. HDD
