| 566557 | 2007-07-07 07:33:00 | Maybe that is your tutors polite way of saying your not ready for the real world, and some more english lessons would be helpful :xmouth:That's not a very helpful comment isn't it? Maybe you should say PedalSlammer couldn't read & write and if he couldn't read & write he wouldn't be hanging in here asking for advice. He'll say: "Ca red rur wtr mt" Got it? You might having a hard time figuring out what is this person saying? "Ca red rur wtr mt" lol, this is an example showing a person couldn't write. He's saying "Can't read you writing mate". Something like that. A more helpful advice is please check your message twice before posting, sometimes people just could not understand your English well. |

| 566559 | 2007-07-07 07:58:00 | Computer Technician seems a bit too easy, and everyone can do it no problem . I've been struggling with old P4 1 . 6Ghz computer, still trying to improve PC performance . And sometimes it hangs for no reason Uhuh . I have to say when peole start off saying being a tech is so simple any idiot could do it then says things like it hangs for no reason I immediately want to throw them into a wall . Of course theres a reason . And as you are already an expert tech because its all so simple why don't you go an fix it . |

Of course theres a reason. And as you are already an expert tech because its all so simple why don't you go an fix it.Yes, I did add more RAM, Auto-Defag with Diskeeper that's all. Normally great for internet surfing, but not great for testing unknown programs because it takes time to install which is a lot longer. :( My parents don't want to replace that HDD, oh well it was use for light duty only, and not much impact on them anyway i.e. only for internet, email, and word processing. That HDD got bad sectors on it which is slowing down the whole process. I know this problem already but need another HDD to fix this problem, but anyway it works, I don't want to spend money on that system instead I'll spend it on my new system more HDD on my new system. And you know as a technician you should saved those files somewhere else safe right? Yes, they're stored in another computer through Networking. |

| 566562 | 2007-07-07 11:46:00 | I'm really not getting how everyone goes on about taking courses and degrees. I have been trying really hard to recruit someone with knowledge of web development and open source CMS along with php coding etc. skills. So far, I've put a rather big (well, I think so anyway) pay rate on the table. So far, I have had two applicants, both doing proper IT/Computer Science degrees at very reputable universities; both have ok degrees, but when it came to interview they were just shocking. They were both very confident, but could not give any evidence that they actually deserved to pass their courses. I rejected both applicants with great speed. A degree is just a paper. Employers like me want to hire someone that can do the job, not show me so called "evidence". I haven't got time to employ people who say "hang on, I'll check in my textbook". Don't expect that just because you got a degree or whatnot, that you will earn top money straight away. I have heard of people with Dip in Hospitality who come out thinking they'll jump straight to $50/hr or something. Dream on! |

Dream on! You're not joking right? :stare: I never seen any uni students say "hang on I'll check my text book" Although in my course some of my peers scored very well in quizzes, when talking about PC stuff he said he'll need to look on the internet/book. i.e. Some didn't even know new laptops DDRs or DDR2s use 200pin So-dims instead they said "I thought they were using 72-pins and 144-pins". I'm not talking about $50/hr thing, it just that you need it right still(I mean the paper)? And knowledge comes along too. I've also seen students who are way old school and don't know about new hardwares at all. i.e. like Quad Core ever exists. |

| 566564 | 2007-07-07 13:45:00 | True but why settle when you can have a better life WITH a qualification. Complacency and laziness are the main factors contributing to drop outs... as for the teacher who didn't teach very well, any decent student WOULD have complained until the problem is sorted... don't blame someone else just because people around you also do nothing... I'll be damned if I let some below par teacher screw around with MY future because they can't do their job well. I really wanted to complain and see the head of department and talked to my father about this but there were some factors -If I complained would it make things worse such as everybody in that department which im doing a major that im a person that likes to cause problems? -Will i get him sacked? -I'm a student who's main purpose is to study not cause problems and made complaints. - I needed a group to make a point .I had two person who I knew in my class. One person wanted to go with me even though he pass but the other wasn't too bothered as long as he passed the paper which he did. At the end i couldn't do anything because going by myself would just make me look pity All I can do is not to take that paper ever again and take another 200 level paper |

Well, not textbook exactly, but they'll look really obvious stuff up in dictionary, etc. its ridiculous, you start to wonder why they bother going to uni. The way I see it is that uni is a start, but it definitely isn't the key. I want someone with enough confidence that I can leave them talking with my clients. At the same time, I want someone who actually knows WWWWHW he or she is doing. It's extremely difficult to get people of this calibre now. Quite sad really considering how many people are coming out of university. |
