2007-07-09 23:42:00 | I want to change the sound that WinXP makes when I put my desktop into Standby. Using [Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices] and [Windows > Media]I can locate most sounds but not Standby. Where is it? BTW, I am using Wizmo to Shutdown and Standby, but I don't think it has its own sounds as its just a desktop shortcut. | Morpheus1 (186) | |

Yes, I know I can choose any sound but what I am looking for is the Standby location for the sound. That is, via Control Panel I can see options for changing many sounds but not Standby. |

2007-07-09 23:58:00 | Why do you need a sound for going in stand by? | winmacguy (3367) | |
2007-07-10 04:43:00 | Don't u wish people would answer your question ! Mine (XP) are in the \Windows\Media folder. You could do a file and folders search for all wav files ie *.wav. Then you'll see what they are called and where they are. Regards Digby

2007-07-10 04:50:00 | I think the poster's problem is that the Control Panel list which allows sounds to be associated with events doesn't have "Standby" as an event. So no sound can be linked with it. ;) | Graham L (2) | |

2007-07-10 05:10:00 | What a balls up. For some reason my question is not understood. I will try again. When I put the pc in standby, there is a sound. I don't like it. Silence would be fine, and no I do not want to always have the speakers turned off. I did not choose the sound. Now is this understood or do I have to explain it in another way? No Speedy, my question has not been answered, and it would be nice if you could be polite rather than flippant. Digby, if you read my initial post you would see that I know about the Media folder; btw, I have done searches for "standby" and even *.wav. So yet again I ask how to change the sound when putting the pc in Standby.

2007-07-10 05:13:00 | is this the same sound as when windows shuts down? Never really heard of a standby sound before, sounds odd. | Jan Birkeland (4741) | |
