567254 2007-07-09 04:41:00 How do I achieve this? Lovelee (6586)
567255 2007-07-09 04:44:00 That depends on whether its got a connection besides the VGA (if its got one for a monitor)

If it hasnt u cant.

567256 2007-07-09 04:47:00 Depends on your laptop. My IBM Thinkpad can feed to the TV using an s-video cable and the audio from the earphone outlet. I do have to turn on the video out in the graphics settings though once it is connected up. Bantu (52)
567257 2007-07-09 05:12:00 Yup we got 2 HPs with that S-video cable outlet on the back.
Is the video cable all I need?
Sound is an issue?

567258 2007-07-09 05:30:00 Sometimes, BUT not always s-video will send audio, if not use a cable from the sound out on the laptop to sound in on your TV.
eg. My Hauppauge card uses seperate cable for audio in to the s-video in, but the s-video out it sends audio to/from the TV.

567259 2007-07-09 07:25:00 Could it be that the 4 pin s video cable doesnt carry audio and the 7 pin does?
Ours has 7 pin.

I've never heard of S-Video sending audio, and wikipedia (en.wikipedia.org) confirms there's no audio. So this comment really confuses me, maybe it's another type incorrectly labelled S-Video.

Into the headphone socket of the laptop you will need to plug a 3.5mm plug with two RCA cables or sockets at the other end.

Another approach if you dont like the cables going to the tv is to use a video sender to wirelessly transmit the video and sound, thats what we use from our PC to the TV.

All the things Ive mentioned are available at Dick Smith or Jaycar. Let me know if you want more detail.

The Hauppauge cable is 7 pin s-video to 4 pin s-video plus composite.
Connecting the 7 pin to the card and the 4 pin to the tv, plus the two composite audio cables to the tv provides video and audio to the TV from the PC. My TV does not have 7 pin. Wiki might say otherwise but this works fine for me.

Not sure but I think the 7 pin is known as s-video pro

I've never heard of a s-video cable carrying audio, and never heard of s-video pro. What is available, however, and perhaps this (www.svideo.com) is what you were talking about, is an s-video cable with a seperate 3.5mm audio cable to RCAs or whatever. :nerd:
