567266 2007-07-09 04:37:00 Hi,
Can anyone tell me if RAM can become virus infected? I added a stick of 256 ddr 200mhz a few days ago and almost immediately my computer became very unstable and behaved in a strange manner. I am running Windows XP home edition. I keep getting Windows Security warning that my firewall is not enabled and SpyBot S&D reports a firewall infection. Any ideas?

567267 2007-07-09 04:41:00 The RAM is likely to be incompatible with your system or faulty if your computer became unstable after installing it. Remove it and see if things improve and if they do then try the new RAM by itself. Report back here with the results.

It also sounds like you have virus and/or spyware problems. Do you have an up-to-date anti-virus program installed? Have you scanned your PC with same?

567268 2007-07-09 04:50:00 You can try switching the ram around into different slot combinations and different combinations of the memory if you have more than two sticks. I have had memory that liked to be in slot 1 instead of the other slots when I used to use mixed brands of memory. Bantu (52)

Ron Keilty:Imao: Probably the RAM speed that cannot be supported by the MOBO. Try looking at each RAM specs and your MOBO specs.

567271 2007-07-15 23:19:00 Thanx for the help. I took the RAM out and I also checked my original RAM. They are all ddr400 so they should be compatible. Anyway, I took them all out and put the new RAM in the first slot and the old in slots 2 and 3. So far I have had no problems. I may have knocked a stick when I was installing the new stuff because the first slot felt a bit sloppy. I have all of the necessary spyware stuff and anti virus and I scan regularly. All seems to be clean as I write! Once again many thanks. rkeilty (8523)
567272 2007-07-16 01:07:00 Sometimes the RAM sticks need quite a bit of force to go in their slots so it is possible that one wasn't fully inserted.

Anyway, glad to hear you got it sorted.
