| 567004 | 2007-07-08 09:05:00 | I have a SMC barricade G wireless ADSL router . I use XNet as the ISP . The problem I have is although the router says it is connected I cannot access the internet . I can ping the router from my PC, but get no response from Xnet's 58 . 28 . 15 . 72 . (Which is always the first IP I see using tracert . ) My router responds . Reply from 192 . 168 . 2 . 1: Distination net unreachable . A normal tracert to www . pcworld . co . nz goes through 192 . 168 . 2 . 1 (My router) 58 . 28 . 15 . 72 (ip-58-28-15-72 . wxnz . net) 58 . 28 . 13 . 49 (ge-1-0-0-57-jcore3 . wxnz . net) 58 . 28 . 8 . 9 (ge-0-0-0-akl-core2 . wxnz . net) 58 . 28 . 14 . 6 (iconz-direct . wxnz . net) 210 . 48 . 5 . 69 (ge-0-2-0 . sky01-jcore . iconz . net) 210 . 48 . 5 . 2 210 . 48 . 5 . 102 210 . 48 . 5 . 62 210 . 54 . 137 . 2 210 . 48 . 100 . 25 (pcworld . co . nz) Occasionally it says "Physical up", but trying to connect doesn't work . Disconnecting and trying to reconnect the router doesn't work either . Only solution so far is to rebooting the router manually or a with a software reboot . I have upgraded the firmware to the latest version . My flatmate has to reboot it in the morning and usually I have to reboot it again in the evening . I have checked the router settings with Xnet and it seems good . My workmate has the same router on Xtra and has the same problem . Anyway while it would be nice to resolve this issue, in the meantime I would like to write a batch file / script / program to reboot the router . (As I am getting tired of logging onto the router and doing software reboots and my flatmate is tired of switching the router on and off - its under a table) . I have played with batch files before, I have Visual studio C++, but I suspect Perl may be the way to go . (I am a believer in using the right language for the job rather than the one you know) . I can read the HTML to identify the executables on the router I need to call, but I know nothing about CGI function calls so not sure where to start . Router IP is 192 . 168 . 2 . 1 . From the pages it serves up: <form action="/cgi-bin/login . exe" method="post" name="tF"> <input type="Submit" value="LOGIN"> <td class=tdText><INPUT type="password" maxLength=12 size=9 name=pws> <input type="submit" name="savesetting" value="REBOOT ROUTER"> Any pointers in the right direction would be apreciated . Cheers Nick |

| 567005 | 2007-07-08 09:25:00 | Welcome to PressF1 Nick. I had a similar issue last year, and my solution to it was to use one of those cheap $7 timers from Mitre 10 to physically turn off the router, and turn it back on, at some obscure time at night (I had mine turning off at 3am, and turning back on at 3:30am). While not the ideal solution, it saved me a lot of hassle. |

Is there a chance you can borrow another one to see if you can get a stable connection? I agree. A script to reboot it or a timer is really only a band-aid to deal with the symptom, it doesn't solve the cause. Broadband modem/routers are so cheap these days it's hardly worth wasting precious time with trying to sort your one. |

| 567008 | 2007-07-10 04:37:00 | Yeah my router seems to need an occassional reboot. But my ISP says my line is a bit crackly and that I should get Telecom to check it out ! Regards Digby |
