2007-07-11 11:26:00 | I have an XBox360 (I won it) but a PS3 would be much better for me for the following reasons: 1. The cost difference is not that great considering the cheapest XBox360 system (Core) is completely useless out of the box. 2. The PS3 allows you to install a third party OS (i.e. Linux) and use it as a computer. I would definitely do this. The XBox does not run your own software at all unless you purchase an XNA creators club subscription and then only in a limited manner. The PS3 is a processing powerhouse and for a computer geek would be 100 times as useful as an XBox. 3. XBox live is not all it's hyped up to be. Updates required just to connect are annoying. Games are expensive and on NZ DSL the big ones aren't really an option. 4. Game developers design for the lowest common configuration. For storage on the XBox this is a memory cartridge (60MB). For the PS3 this is a 20GB hard drive. No games will fully utilise the hard drive of the XBox360 as by requiring it for all gamers they would cut off too much of the casual market and developing games to work in several modes is expensive. 5. Microsoft fights dirty. Given roughly equal products I will always favour the company which plays nicest. Has anybody else seen the reviews they published trashing the PS3 when they didn't even know the hardware specs? Points against the PS3: 1. They only have 256MB of memory. 2. The Playstation network support is not as good. For me this falls massively in favour of the PS3.

Over 5m people online, updates only required when a new update comes out, and take less than a min (i get maybe 1 or 2 updates per month). You obviously haven't priced a PS3 game in comparison then? 4. Game developers design for the lowest common configuration. For storage on the XBox this is a memory cartridge (60MB). Actually, stats show most people have the one with the hardrive. We'll see what happens with GTAIV, because they announced they're having trouble because not all 360's have hardrives. 5. Has anybody else seen the reviews they published trashing the PS3 when they didn't even know the hardware specs? At least MS don't overcharge and admit to their mistakes (3 year warranty) Points against the PS3: 1. They only have 256MB of memory. 2. The Playstation network support is not as good. For me this falls massively in favour of the PS3. Sorry, just had to comment on that. |

2007-07-11 11:38:00 | Well, could be. If you read that thread there are interesting theorys. Well it's confirmed that MS are releasing the console in different colours, so it could be that, or it could be the Halo 3 one in a case.

2007-07-11 11:45:00 | Heres a link to confirm that the xbox 360 Falcon is coming. Its not so much a new model it just has smaller chips and a quieter dvd drive and a better gpu inside and is faster. bink.nu

2007-07-11 12:38:00 | I don't really care if its faster or not but whether it will infact have 2 heatsinks in it as MS have been doing with the ones they are repairing or so the reports say. Otherwise everything is going to be quiet when you get the Red Ring of Death. If they do make those improvements, I will seriously consider buying one with the launch of Halo3. | beeswax34 (63) | |

2007-07-17 07:40:00 | I find that hard to believe considering ps3 is still struggling to make any descent sales anywhere in the world. | Hitech (9024) | |
