They should be able to tell you exactly what you need to do. They shouldn't need to call you back. There will be something you have missed, or (unlikely) some strange setting in your BIOS configuration. Resetting the BIOS and using the default settings is a good idea. I'd guess that that would certainly give a CD boot option. ;) |

| 567457 | 2007-07-11 08:51:00 | This dell has been sweet it worked straight out of the box. It just needs a reinstall of windows like all other windows computers. People who dont like dell are usualy labour voting, liberal ,anti gun, tree hugging, foreign car driver dip@#$%^. I thought there might be some dell experts here Worked sweet huh. It has occurred to me that there is no boot from CD option showing in the BIOS because perhaps it is not even seeing the CD drive. Have you checked that? People who don't like Dell usually have had plenty of experience with cheap crap components that are often installed in them and their amazingly unhelpful helpdesk. But then you wouldn't listen at the time as I remember. I think it may be an excellent idea to take it to your geek girl. |

Well every car in NZ is foreign. We don't make cars here. And I detest Dell  |

| 567460 | 2007-07-12 11:43:00 | Firstly . Anyone who buys a Dell deserves what they get . Secondly . Remove your hard disk and throw as far away as you can . Buy a new H/D and a copy of XP and install them . Thirdly . Next time ypu buy a computer, don't buy from anyone who doesn't give you a full win disk . Firstly, people who own Dells seem to be far less negative about them than those who don't . Secondly there is nothing at all wrong with the HD in my dell; in fact it is one of the better ones . I bought a second one, same make and model . They are both doing just fine . Thirdly Dells come with a full set of CD's of the software, at least mine did . :) If anyone wishes to argue the matter further, I won't waste my time reading it . |

| 567461 | 2007-07-12 19:41:00 | Just my :2cents: I would be ringing Dell based on what you have said (Unable to boot from CD, the computer bluescreens) BEFORE the warranty runs out. You don't need to tell them you want to reinstall the OS. Otherwise, front up with some cash and take it to that woman you know There is no third option (assuming you don't feel comfortable or have the knowledge required to fix it yourself) |

| 567462 | 2007-07-13 04:30:00 | Ted: Simple. It's a bios setting. I spent 5 minutes playing with a Dell this morning at the auction. 1. F2 to BIOS setup 2. down to "Boot Sequence", press "Enter" 3. One of the numbered items will be "Disable". Move the cursor to that one and use "Space" bar to make it "CDROM". 4. Use "+" or "-" to make it first if you want to. (This isn't needed ... you will be able to use the F12 menu later). 5. "Enter", "Esc", select "Save and Exit", "Enter" That will make CDROM appear in the F12 menu again. (I suspect that the "Normal" one which you are [probably] getting now would boot from CDROM, but only if there isn't a bootable HD or floppy present. ;) ) Why is it that people who for some reason don't like Dell feel that they are making a contribution by expressing it? Ted was asking for information, not for opinions of Dell. |

Guys and gals, this is a "help forum" not a"slag off forum" Cheers HH |

| 567464 | 2007-07-13 10:14:00 | Thank you very much for your replies and help. The problem was there was no cd rom on the boot sequence in the bios Although the cd drive worked fine. Got a crack from a Russian site which placed a cd rom drive in middle of boot sequence then I shifted it to the top. Thanks for help tedheath |
