so do you guys think the 8800gts 320mb is fine for what im after? anymore is overkill and a waste of money?
when is the new nvidia range coming out like november?

with the memory a few options here
can you just tell me the advantages if i was to go with one of these
i might overclock im not to sure

kingston 2gb ddr2 800mhz $171
corsair 2gb ddr2 800mhz $197
crucial pc5300 ballistix 667mhz $215

is the mhz a big performance factor in buying memory?

with the power supply few options

raidmax 520w $101
enermax wisper 535w $160
silverstone st56f 560w $146

do i need to spend heaps on psu or not?Depends on you, no one cares this is your PC not mine. i.e. No one care about my TJ-09 case, because that's my item and I care about it.

 Care for your PC mate. And make your own decision. I'll give you a clue about my PSU Silverstone 750W Olyumpia Series designed for X2900XT.

cheersSure, get a cheap PSU if you want. Besides check out pricespy.co.nz I not asking you to get 750W, something like 500W is good enough, check out pricespy for more options, yes SilverStone got insane prices, since you're getting a cheap PSU stay away from SilverStone brands.

Raid brand looks like the cheapest and most common one, don't blame me you can get three PSU with one 500W SilverStone PSU. Anyway it shouldn't be a problem.

Need professional help go to overclock.net, there's tons of cool people there and not lame ones so don't bother asking about cheap PSU in there.

567646 2007-07-11 03:56:00 In regards to RAM, id recommend corsair. You've got a good price there too, under $200. I assume the latency is 5-5-5-12? If u don't want to overclock that's sweet, it's only really when you start overclocking and adjusting voltages that the the latency of RAM comes into play.

In regards to the speed of the RAM, with buying new stuff I wouldn't go any slower than 800Mhz, pretty much all decent new mobos will run RAM at 800, but the ram will slow down if the mobo can't handle the speed, so it doesn't really matter either way, apart from the fact that your future proofing if you get faster RAM.

For the PSU, don't skimp. That doesn't mean you have to go huge either though. Get a good brand. Both the Thermaltake and Ernemax that you mentioned earlier look good. I wouldn't recommend getting a Raidmax, they are budget.

EDIT: The 8800gts is really good value for money now, and will perform pretty well.

I refer to my earlier post -

567648 2007-07-11 04:06:00 If your not going to overclock then you don't need expensive RAM!!!! If its got a good warranty and runs at the speed you need then it will be fine! Pete O'Neil (6584)
567649 2007-07-11 04:43:00 DDR2 800 is the least I'll go for in a system like yours. Having a 667 RAM in a Core 2 Duo (the 1066 FSB ones) system can actually decrease performance slightly in some cases.

I think it's OK if you get cheap A-Data DDR2 800 RAMs. I have 2 A-Data 1GB RAMs at a default latency of 5-5-5-18. That's pretty high. But I tightened the timings a little and it works stably at 4-5-5-15 at default voltage. Maybe if I upped the voltage to 1.9v I might get up to 900MHz at 4-5-5-15, but I'm too much of a wuss to increase voltages lol. :p

And to be honest, I can't notice any difference in performance between my DDR2 800 RAMs at 4-5-5-15 rather than 5-5-5-18.
